Use to love this pub when I first started going last year (august 2020), back when they had nice respectful staff. Ive been a polite and regular customer there but recent staff is quite rude: I myself work in customer service and I love it, but these new guys should definitely not be working there, worst customer service Ive seen in a while. Smile a little you know (life is short).
Also, what's the point of having darts if you're only going to open them on weekends? Would be especially hard to play on weekends as it is rather busy. Ive been playing darts at this pub for over a year now, i use to go at least once a week and the staff back then would let me play any day of the week. But now suddenly it's not "allowed" anymore? I never did anything wrong in this pub so i dont understand this new policy.
Also I asked for a Guinness this week and the bartender told me that they were out because of a production/delivery problem and so that i wouldnt find guinness in any other bar/pub that day. So naturally, I went to check in the pub next door (Wirströms) and happily enjoyed a Guinness there. (Amazing staff and customer service in Wirströms btw: highly recommend!!). So yeah, why lie O'Connells?
But either way, I enjoyed the good times I had there but never going...
Read moreI´m sad to say that this pub have gone from good to awefull. This pub used to be the place to go to if you wanted a well prepeared meal along with your pint, but not anymore! The food now is sub-standard to say the least! A plate of standard "Fish and chips" (Which once were their forté) is now reduced to a greasy sliver of barely battered sub-standard fish, and chips that were beyond bad! A chip should be crisp on the outside and soft inside. Their chips are dark brown, not crispy at all and almost raw inside. It´s clear that the owners now only focus on selling drinks to tourists instead of providing atleast edible foods along with the beers.
So.. If you´re only after a pint O´Connells is good. You won´t find a cheaper one in Gamla Stan for sure! If you´re hungry however you´re better off shopping...
Read moreI always try to visit an Irish Pub in any country I get to visit, and this was definitely in the classic style I'm used to! Red brick covers every square inch that isn't dark wood or iron, and the beer selection carries the classics as well as the local.
A cool feature about this place, though, is their 400 year old cellar! A low ceiling leads down very deep steps to a catacomb of red brick and opens up to a series of private rooms, booths, billiards and darts before finally revealing a basement bar.
The masonry alone is astounding, and the fact that it is almost a half a millennia old and serving fantastic ales, lagers, and stouts adds only to the romance. Definitely worth a visit, and at least a few pints 🍻
10/10 would...
