溫泉魚療恐引發傳染病 雖然溫泉魚療所使用的淡紅墨頭並無牙齒，但若長時間吸附在一處，仍然有可能會破壞人的皮膚，引發細菌傳染。若店家重複使用水和魚，可能造成更大的病菌感染風險，包含創傷弧菌(Vibrio vulnificus)和乙型鏈球菌(Streptococcus agalactiae，Group B Streptococcus簡稱GBS)。有的時候，魚在去除角質層的過程，也會影響指甲板(Nail plate)的幹細胞，導致指甲長不出來。

不過血體液傳染病(Blood-borne infectious disease)，像是肝炎(Hepatitis)和人類免疫力缺乏病毒(HIV，或稱愛滋病毒)透過魚療傳染機率極低，除了病毒難以在水中或魚體存活外，病毒量也相當微小。

一般來說，建議患有糖尿病(Diabetes)、免疫系統欠佳，以及皮膚受傷的人，都請暫時避免溫泉魚療，避免細菌感染的風險。

商家恐改用便宜長齒魚 消費者要小心，有的商家為節省成本，會改用較便宜的請請魚(Chin Chin)，因其外型像似淡紅墨頭，不知情的顧客真的會分不出來。根據美國疾病管制與預防中心(CDC)的資料顯示，這種魚會長牙齒，所以它更會造成皮膚受傷，並引發細菌感染。
