Boy, what a disappointment.
Full disclosure: I paid 450 baht for my head, neck, and shoulder massage (COVID discount).
The massage itself was fine, but not exceptionally better than 300/hour places. I don’t have any complaint about my masseuse, but at the same time, it wasn’t great or anything. She applied quite a bit if pressure on my left upper back and now it hurts more than before.
What went wrong were the details.
There were ants on my bed!! It looked clean at first, but after 15 mins of laying there, I felt like something was climbing up and down me. I ignored it until I couldn’t. I paused the massage to look at my arms and there was an army of 30+ plus ants crawling on both of my arms! I thought it was in my head, but they were very real. We switched to a different futon, and attached is a pic I took after the end of my massage.
The environment was noisy. I was in a corner room, so you could hear motorbikes zipping around every 10 seconds.
Towards the end of my massage, somebody turned on the lights in the room (the switch is outside). Not very pleasant to have the lights suddenly go bright during a massage.
This is not a 5 star place. This is a rebranded 300 baht massage in a nicer building... that couldn’t even provide a nicer environment. I couldn’t shut off my head (Will the ants come bite me again? I was laying 2 for from the old futon where the ants are). Combined with motorbike noise and just people closing doors in the hallway, it was not a tranquil environment.
What a disappointment. I feel bad for them because COVID is hurting them, but at the same time, I cannot in good faith recommend spending 900 baht (usual...
Read moreMade an appointment on 31th July for 1st August for a 4 hour session of Thai massage, body scrub, aromatherapy and facial treatment at 10am. I appreciated the team responded early my email for appointment confirmation and transport. I was the first customer being served warmly by receptionist Chomaon. I would like to praised her from her excellent service from the moment I reached Makkha, her presence make me felt comfortable with all explanation given to me. She even offered to help me to take photo knowing i wanted to explore around Makkha. She also recommended me to do hot aromatherapy (additional top up of 200baht) which I did as it was my first time trying out. Turned out I enjoyed it! She served me tea and honey crackers while waiting for my room to be ready. Service and ambiance is top notch, but there's some area needed to be improved. Based on my experience, I will prefer my masseur to communicate with me on the next step of treatment/ type of product being used and it's benefits. Also, for facial treatment I would expect of more steps like cleasning and extracting black/white head etc despite the high cost I paid for. This is the reason I'm putting 4 stars instead of 5 for room for improvement. Overall, I will come back to experience...
Read moreI had an absolutely wonderful experience at Makkha Health & Spa Colonial Gardens in Chiang Mai! From the moment I arrived, the reception service was warm, welcoming, and incredibly professional, setting a calm and peaceful tone for the entire visit. The spa itself is stunning — beautifully designed and immaculately clean, with a tranquil atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease.
I chose the one-hour oil aroma massage, and it was everything I had hoped for and more. My therapist was highly skilled and attentive, ensuring the pressure and technique were just right throughout the treatment. The massage was soothing, deeply relaxing, and left me feeling completely refreshed both physically and mentally.
To top it all off, I was treated to a delicious serving of mango and sticky rice at the end of the session — a perfect and thoughtful touch that made the experience feel truly complete.
I wholeheartedly recommend Makkha Health & Spa Colonial Gardens to anyone looking for a premium spa experience in Chiang Mai. I will definitely be returning on...
