I am an orthopedic manual therapist and have been in the medical/ health and wellness field for nearly 30 years I have a private practice here in Albuquerque. I have been doing pilaties a long time but never like this. Over the past 6 years I have had several sever injuries and one emergency surgery that left a ton of damage to the fascia and tissues in the medial side of my left groin all the way down my inner thigh, left knee, and into my foot. Two years ago I developed plantar fasciitis in both my feet as well as heel spurs in both heels. Ive been searching for someone like Luz to help me heal from all these things and I am so grateful to have finally found Luz. She teaches classical pilaties coupled with the Alexander method along with other modalities coupled with the other innate gifts she brings to her work, like compassion, empathy and the authentic care she has for all her clients. Her work is more like physical therapy than just pilaties. She focuses deeply on her clients individual needs. Your first sessions are private so she can really hone in on your body and customize the movements and balance you need specifically. Her group classes after that are small so she can focus on each person's individual needs. She uses foundational movements that build on eachother so that the work you do in class gentely and precisely starts to correct the imbalances in your body. She leads with expert training and experience coupled with her finley tuned intuition and lazer focused attention to the details of your body's needs. Her classes are about teaching people total body awareness and connection in order to access each persons innate freedom to move in all planes joyfully. Ive been taking classes from her for a little over two months and for the first time in three years I can walk barefoot with no pain. I can sit in meditation without having to extend my left leg because of fascial pain, hip pain, and restriction. Im a beast in the gym now because the of subtle awareness Ive gained, and the access I have to my accessories muscles that wasn't there before I started training with Luz. The work Ive done with her in this short amount of time has quite literally given me back parts of my life I was worried I wouldn't get back. I am the kind of person who has struggled my entire life to find a form of exercise that I enjoy, and classes with Luz are the one thing I always look forward to. They are fun and flexible, but still challenging and have helped me gain so much strength and confidence in my body's abilities. As a person with chronic pain and hyper-mobility, I also really appreciate that Luz is always flexible in assessing my body each time and giving me a more challenging class when I'm in a good place to push myself, or a more gentle class when I need to move slower.
