So I went to the Kate Spade store in Allen, TX yesterday(8/13) with my sister and she selected a handbag for her. kate spade new york. She is a student at Collin County and UT Dallas. She went to pay for the bag and showed the associate a picture of her ID since she did not have her college ID with her at the time and had forgotten her wallet at home so she just showed her a picture. The associate called the manager told her that her ID was a year old, she explained the manager that you only get one ID for the whole duration but the store manager told her she can't help her after hearing this my sister came out of the store. I went back to the store with my sister to just buy the bag without the student discount. When I get to the check out, the associate saw me and my sister and told her manager on her mic "she is back". I asked her to call the store manager and explained her that my sister used her student ID in the same store two days ago and she can look up her transaction. The store manager was rude and said I cannot help you and you the ID is a year old and then she said I need the ID the actual physical ID and said I told you I cannot help so I exited the store. Because my sister wanted the bag so bad my mom said I will go buy it and as soon as she enters the store an associate told my mom "are you with those two girls? sorry we cannot help you". The store manager and the associate both were super rude and because my mother was holding the same bag and looked like us they decided to just tell her that she cannot be helped before she could even be at the check out. The store associates profiled my mom because she is also in Indian or may be she had the same bag but I am not sure what made them decide that she just simply cannot be helped. My sister buys from Kate Spade a lot and this kind of behavior was totally uncalled for. We were there to spend money but not be treated like they didn't care for our business because may be how we looked. I went to write a review on Google before this and noticed every single bad review is by a person of color and I feel this is probably a common theme for the store. When I made my purchase, my large items were placed in a bag without tissue paper. I asked if they could provide some, and while they did, the interaction felt cold and unwelcoming—as if my request was an inconvenience.
I was also offered a gift box for an additional $5, which I agreed to. Unfortunately, once I got home, I noticed the box was torn on the side and poorly assembled. While waiting for it to be wrapped, I browsed the jewelry section and found a bracelet I wanted to purchase. During that time, one associate stood nearby watching me—but never offered help—and walked away as soon as I headed to the register to pay.
This experience was vastly different from my visit to the Grand Prairie location in December, where the service was exceptional. In 2025, it’s disappointing to still see such inconsistency in how customers are treated. Every guest deserves the same level of respect and service. I understand there’s a closing policy but her customer service was completely out of line. Anyways even the Victoria Secret employee from next door was trying to get this RUDE employee attention to help me.
