There is an old addage that says, "The pen is mightier than the sword". I will happily use my pen to express my experience with this particular store..Recently I went shopping for a birthday present for my wife. Upon entering the store I noticed a gentleman wearing a bright red windbreaker with MACYS emblazoned across the front. I have not been in this store for over a year and a half since Covid, so I had no idea they have implemented new security personnel (you cannot miss those darn near neon red jackets these guys wear). I proceeded to walk over to the holiday clearance section to scan over the few ornaments that were available. After not seeing anything that caught my attention, I headed downstairs to the women's department. I have never been to the women's sleepwear section and had to ask an associate in fragrance how to get there. Upon my arrival, I asked an associate who was working there about robes. She pointed out the inventory they had which was hanging up. I searched everything they had but could not find one in my wife's size. I asked another associate did they have another selection of robes to which she responded, "No". At that time I decided to try my luck at Dillard's. As I was leaving the department I looked up and see this rather large security associate headed towards me. He gave me a rather strange look and immediately I ascertained that he was certainly on a mission to capture somebody...anybody. Mind you he was not the same gentleman at the door when I first entered the store. It was quite ironic that this guy pops up in the area just as I am leaving. The rather sheepish almost goofy expression on this guy's face let me know automatically that he was dispatched to investigate why a black man was in the women's sleepwear section. I had to keep from laughing as I made my way to the elevator. As I ascended to the second floor my chuckle turned to anger. I have been coming into this store since 2003 and for the past 19 years have never had an issue. No criminal record whatsoever and now all of a sudden I am a suspect? Interesting indeed but certainly not shocked. Allowing a cooler head to prevail I called Macy's the next day to speak with store management. The maze of prompts and number selections that automated system puts you through is maddening to say the least. I randomly picked a department and was routed to the administrative office. I spoke with a secretary who took down my information and promised that someone would contact me. Within an hour I received a call from the Human Resources Manager who listened to my complaint. She was very professional and considerate knowing that there was very little she could do regarding any resolution to the dilemma. I waited a few days and called to speak with the store manager whose name I will withhold for the sake of privacy. Another associate within the executive ranks of the store answered the phone and took down my information and promised to email the store manager. I doubt very seriously that an email was sent nor that any phone call will be made. If it is the practice of this store to follow Black men around then this needs to be known. I had to run errands that day and I guess my jeans, vest and collegiate scarf and hat fit the profile of America's most dangerous criminal. Who knows? I did not realize that Macy's had a dress code and I must have inadvertently violated it. I could have worn a Tom Ford suit and Italian loafers and the same thing probably would have happened. I will certainly not be returning to this store anytime in the near future. I felt compelled to write this review as a stark warning for other men who happen to share my complexion to be on the lookout and perhaps take your dollars elsewhere. 19 years of patronage ended last week. In all actuality this turned out to be pretty awesome. I saved some money and I got an opportunity to sound the alarm on this store. Paul Revere move over buddy...I've got this message system under control. Beware!!! The Macy's Red Coats are...
Read moreOVERALL: I like all the deals and shop here a lot! Had many many good encounters like all the nice makeup artist people previously (who all deserve 5 stars!) but the latest incident at the watch counter was awful and still upsets me over a month later (-5 stars if possible...)
STAR DISTRUBUTION: 5 stars for kind people working the customer service line -5 stars for hostile in-store assoicate -3 stars for in-store "DAN the manager"
SUMMARY OF BAD SITUATION: Brought in watches I had bought from macys.com in to be resized. Associate claims watches cannot be from Macys and implied my bf and I are liars and thieves. Manager sided with associate. Got charged an extra $30 ($15 per watch) for what should have been free service. Had to call customer service to complain and get charges removed. Supposedly resolved.
THINGS I LEARNED ON THE AWFUL DAY: Have reciept pulled up on phone before stepping up to the counter. In-store associates don't necessarily recognize products from macys.com. Don't expect professional service when dressed comfortably and being not-white, at least not at this Macys location. If a Macy's associate won't listen: ask them politely to contact the customer service line.
DETAILS: The associate accused me and my boyfriend of "purchasing watches elsewhere and trying to get Macy's to resize them for free" and refused to look at my reciept on my phone when I tried to pull it up as "proof of purchase" that I purchased them online from macys.com the previous month. I offered my card so she could check my latest account activity and was refused, then told repeatedly that because I had removed the price tags from the watches, there was no way to prove I had purchased these particular watches from Macys, confirming at one point that even if I showed her the receipt, she still wouldn't believe us because we could have bought 2 of the same watches elsewhere and were pretending they were Macy's products. So in her mind, either we were lying rich cheapskates who bought the same watches from twice and trying to save $30 on resizing the 2 copies, or we were thieves who stole the watches and trying to get them resized for free. She also took the more expensive watch out of the box and walked out of sight with it for more than 10 minutes while I was trying to pull up the receipt and missed her departure. "DAN the manager" sided with her and said he was sure 1 was most certainly not purchased from Macys so they would do us a favor this time only and to charge us for that watch only. The associate still went ahead and charged us for both watches. The associate's behavior was hostile and unprofessional the entire time: implying we were liars and thieves, charging us for both watches (probably out of spite), and even rolled her eyes at one point. The manager's behavior was not much better because he refused to listen to our side at all. I suppose that is good if you work there that the managers will have your back, but as a customer, I'm pretty offended being labeled a liar and a thief.
We were treated like liars and thieves from the start. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that neither of us are white, we dressed pretty plainly, and perhaps looked pretty young to afford sort of fancy watches. Honestly we don't look our age when we don't dress up, plus I splurged on some slightly nicer watches by our standards and had saved for a bit to afford them outright. They look lovely! Maybe yeah, we should have dressed up a little but the whole situation spiraled pretty out of control because that associate refused to look at my online/phone receipt and never offered to call the customer service line to discuss the Macys policies.
Note: I later called the customer service line myself to fix being unfairly charged for something I had already paid for and to complain about the unprofessional, agesit, and basically racist behavior we had deal with that day. I have only praises to sing for the lovely people who took my calls and who helped me each time, so 5...

The associat will push you because of the 5 dollars but you need to deal with the consequences for ever . Is there an option for No star ⭐️ On September 1st, I visited Macy's and, based on a recommendation from an associate, I opened a new Macy's credit card despite already having one. I purchased items totaling $557.07, but after reconsidering, I decided to return the items on September 3rd, as it felt excessive to spend that much on pillows.
Upon returning the items, the same associate who processed my purchase and opened the card was there. She attempted to refund me, but we quickly realized that I was not getting the full refund. After trying various registers and seeking help from her manager, Rene, we spent over two and a half hours in the store, talking to Macy's Amex card services multiple times. I was assured that the issue was being resolved and a dispute was filed.
During this lengthy process, I was not offered any basic courtesy, such as a glass of water, despite the extended wait. Even Rene ( the manager ) snapped at me when i said how long this will take . She looks and also behave truly unprofessional.
It felt as though my experience as a customer was completely disregarded.
After leaving, I followed up with Macy's card services only to find out that no dispute had been filed. I had to explain the entire situation again over the phone, and after another two hours, a dispute was finally opened. However, when I called again the following week to check on the status, I was told once more that there was no dispute in place, forcing them to open yet another one.
On Friday, September 20th, I received a letter from Macy's stating they denied my dispute and required more information. This led me back to Macy's on Monday, September 23rd, where I spoke with Elizabeth and eventually met with Korey, another manager. Korey assured me he would escalate the issue to the president of finance for resolution.
Despite all this, I have now returned all the items, including $93.10 spent using the Macy’s money bonus I received for my purchase. The issue remains unresolved, with a lingering balance I should not be responsible for, considering all items were returned.
I wrote to korey yesterday that i need to get this resolved my credit card payment is approaching and he said file another dispute and then turn it to collections…really ?? Why i need to wreck my credit ?? I asked to speak to Stote Manager and there is no response there …
The amount of time and energy I have wasted dealing with this situation is truly frustrating. Hours of my life have been spent on a matter that should have been straightforward, and the lack of customer care and responsiveness has only added to my disappointment. No customer should have to endure such poor treatment and inefficient service, and I hope this matter is...
