Read moreI took the train from Philadelphia to New Orleans in a sleeping car last week. When we arrived in Atlanta, the train was abbreviated due to the tracks being too hot to travel the rest of the way to Nola. The solution was an 8 hour bus ride. You can't argue with mother nature and safety, so I guess that was the best solution for Amtrak, but they way it was handled was horrible. No notice that the train was ending in Atlanta. I honestly believe they knew before I boarded the train in Philly. They have the weather forecast... why not mention this before. I would have gladly rearrange my tracel to avoid that mess. The sleeping car was filthy and my door lock didn't work. My attendant was unprofessional and the food was bad. The trip back was very nice, newer train and smooth ride arrived on time both ways. And the coach seats were far more roomy than anything you'd get on a plane. 2 50 lb bags with for free with each ticket and a 25 lb carry on allowed. If you got the time, it's a good way to relax and save money and see a bit of...
