My girlfriends and I like to try new restaurants on Thursdays and Smoky Stallion recently opened in our neighborhood and we saw a sign for Happy Hour til 6 so it was a no brainer (fyi: this might be only on Thurs but it was half off select apps and cocktails). I started with 1 margarita and it was good and strong so of course i had another. To eat, i had the brisket sandwich with the smoky sauce. That alone deserves 5 stars. Everything including the service was A1! Great prices too! On our way out, Cam Newton was on the patio and stopped us to play spades. I obliged. It was great vibes with great people! I enjoyed so much i even went back the next day. This time for the turkey leg platter. When i tell yal this turkey leg was so good! I had it with greens and potato salad. This was a Friday and they had a dj which i enjoyed so much bc he was vibing but not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. (That's hard to come by these days) Anyway, I'm so glad to have another great spot in the neighborhood. I suggest you all come give it a try! Forgot to get pics of the brisket sandwich but i have the turkey leg i plated at home as well as the good time playing spades...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor me BBQ isnāt just food, itās also a culture ā and itās a culture of blue collar and agricultural workers, often Black. It is history as well as food. If you want your BBQ in that sort of atmosphere, go to Daddy Dāz. If you want your BBQ in an anodyne, middle class, whitey-safe environment, go to Smokey Stallion. Hey, thereās a time and place for everything. If your Trump-voting Cracker relatives from Arkansas are in town for a visit, and you want them to have some good BBQ, then you are probably safe taking them to Smokey Stallion, although the Castlebury neighbourhood may scare them a little. It isnāt Buckhead. On the food, I was recommended by a local to have the brisket sandwich. I did. It was good, but the brisket was a little dry. The service, by a friendly woman with a happy, round, high-cheekboned face (suggesting Yoruba roots) was great. The fries were outstandingā I very nearly ordered more even though I had finished my meal. One curiosity: SS does not serve coffee, so if you want coffee all you have to do is walk around the corner to Brooklyn Tea, which despite the name serves good coffee. Good Vibe, too. I will write a review of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been wanting to try this place for the longest. Finally went & the service was horrible. As soon as we walked in, the look on the older womanās face (at least early 40ās), showed she didnāt want to be there. We sat down, it took at least 10 mins for her to bring us the menu QR code. She brings it, doesnāt say hello, then asks us, ādo yāall know what you want?ā We told her to give us a few minutes. A few minutes turned into 15 & I walked over to where she was sitting at the bar in a conversation with I assume another worker, & told her we were ready. After I sat back down, she proceeded to continue her conversation until she was good and ready to stop talking. Another 5-10 mins after, we decide to leave. As soon as we started getting our things to leaveā¦SURPRISE, she finally gets through talking and asks us, āwhy are we leaving?ā You maāam. Youāre the problem. Guys, we were the only guest in the place! Literally, a total of 5 adults & 3 kids. Not once did she ask us for...
