My husband wrote the following review somewhere else and I’m copying it here for those who prefer google over other review services.
If you're searching for an honest family owned business who cares more about their reputation and taking care of their customers like family, than milking their customers for what they can, come here!
Don't risk getting taken and overpaying by going somewhere else. It's hard to find truly honest and upfront jewelers who don't prey on the ignorant.
I use to be in the business and had trusted contacts but when we moved, I had to start my search all over again.
We went to a few to inquire about a custom ring we wanted made. I wouldn't show that I knew what I was doing, just to see how straightforward and honest they'd be about what we should expect.
Sadly, most gave me answers that I knew were puffery. At Kruger's it was different. They were very honest, helpful and provided genuine guidance and care as though we were part of the family.
They didn't try and inflate the prices or play the usual games in the industry. Mind you, our continued search required we drive approximately 40 minutes to get to them.
So they were definitely worth the drive for the peace of mind and savings from what other jewelers wanted to price gouge us with.
Don't get me wrong, everyone deserves to profit. And I want them to profit, but when you've been in the business, you know the difference between what is reasonable and what is exploitive.
Everyone at Kruger's from Mr. Kruger himself, to his delightful daughter Rachel to Holli who patiently took care of us the whole way through, were a breath of fresh air to deal with, in an industry mostly filled with sharks.
Not only was the custom ring perfect, they put in higher quality diamonds and provided a better outcome than what others were willing to do at twice the price.
Thank you Holli and the entire staff actually, who was always cheerful and a pleasure to work with.
They may be a bit far from us, but they're worth the drive. We won't go...
Read moreI have been a customer at Kruger's for going on 30 years. It may sound cliche to say it but the more Austin changes, the more Kruger's stays the same. It is truly a family run business and when I am there I am made to feel like I am part of that family. They offer amazing service and selection from a staff that is knowledgeable and incredibly helpful and generous with their time.
When I was a student I carried an inexpensive pocket watch and would take it to Kruger's for new batteries and the occasional repair. While they made sure to let me know that they had a selection of fine watches for me to choose from as a step up from my cheap time piece, they never made me fee like I was any less of a valued customer just because I was not spending a lot of money.
After I graduated from UT I was preparing to get married. I hadn't been into Kruger's for several years but I knew that Kruger's was where I was going to buy the diamond for my bride to be. When I walked in, Mr. Kruger saw me from across the store, stopped what he was doing, and said, "Excuse me, I need to sell this man a diamond." I am not sure how he new that this time I wasn't there to bug him about a cheap watch, but he knew. He did sell me a diamond and I got a beautiful stone for a good price and the entire experience was great.
Fast forward to today, many years later, and I am still bugging them with my inexpensive watches but now I have the pleasure of dealing with the next generation of Kruger's staff that includes his two daughters. The service is still impeccable. I needed my wedding band re-sized and I wanted to get my wife's ring re-appraised. I was nervous about resizing my ring but again I was made to fee like family as they handled it effortlessly.
I cannot recommend Kruger's enough. It is a fantastic store with a fantastic staff who are very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. It is also a great place to go to get a little taste of Austin the way...
Read moreYesterday I came in to sell a couple gold items (it was my first time selling my jewelry). It took forever to find parking, but Mr. Kruger graciously agreed over the phone to stay a little past his usual time (2:30 pm) for the appraisal. Although I really appreciated this accommodation, I did not appreciate his incredibly condescending demeanor and tone. One of his other employees joined in on the mocking as well. Very unprofessional.
In my culture it's important to be respectful of your elders, so I bit my tongue, smiled, and remained courteous. After leaving the store though, I regretted selling any of my jewelry to these people. I should have left the store immediately, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch. Since I graduated in May, I've been downsizing for my move to SA (my parents are turning my room into a gym after I move this Wednesday). Everything that I have no use for -big or small- has got to go. I'm donating the majority of my belongings, but figured I could get a little pocket change for my gold pendant and white gold ankle bracelet. I'll be starting my job right after I move and won't have time to do errands like this.
The price that he gave me was decent, but I'm sure I could've received more from another place. I made no fuss though because I don't have time to go to every single jeweler in Austin before the move for a mere extra $30. Just to be clear though, my 1-star rating is a result of being disrespected and mocked, not the money.
I'm not sure if Mr. Kruger was rude because he took me for some naive little girl without a pot to piss in or if his snarkiness is just one of his many lovely innate attributes. His last snarky comment that was made as I was walking out the door (yes, I heard you Mr. Kruger), was the icing on this shitcake of an experience. I -as well as all of my Austin-based family and friends- will not be spending a single cent at your store from...
