What a fun bookstore! Located on the main street in Pigtown, this independent bookstore is run by a passionate couple. Blasting music, enter into a world of books spread out on two floors. The first floor has most of their books with children's books and a play space up stairs. Visiting during Independent Bookstore Day, they hid tiny jars throughout the store for customers to find. Inside were gift cards, discounts, etc. They also host many events. For a date night, you can rent the entire store. You bring the food and they provide the drinks (and a store discount). So fun!

Lovely bookshop with a great variety of genres and authors (other than typical big name authors you see in chain stores). Also a lovely collection of gifts for all ages, like bags, toys, clothing, games, etc. there's a lot area for purchasing tea (although I didn't look too closely). The shop doggos are adorable and well behaved. Definitely stop in when you can! The employees are wonderful and will happily gush over titles with you & give recs.

On a whirlwind trip to Baltimore, I had a little extra time on my hands and searched for indie bookstores near me, and Charm City Books popped up. I schlepped the half mile there and walked in and... it was absolute heaven.

I don't know how to explain my feelings about Charm City Books other than to say that I instantly felt seen. I may have been greeted when I walked in-- I probably was-- but I honestly couldn't tell you because I was immediately drawn in by a beautifully curated collection of books.

Did I need more books? No. Did I already have about half of the books that they had in stock? Yes (don't judge me). Did I decide that I absolutely had to support this small business and get another book? Yup.

I wish I lived in Baltimore so that I could be here...

Charm City, you asked why....so here we go...

Pros: Good selection of books, toys, art supplies, caps, and places to enjoy the reading material. A place that embraces banned books, I loved that! Found all sorts of things from wordsearches, coloring books, magickal, LGBTQIA, non-fiction and a lot more.

Cons: I wasn't greeted by anyone like other reviewers were. I was the only one in the store at the time. Employees seemed more interested in each other than asking if I needed anything. I'm introverted so it didn't bother me much. I like to be alone with books. My first time here so it made a dent in my impression. I looked through the material about membership, but no one seemed interested in my interest.

I ordered from Charm City Books in Baltimore during the pandemic, so my order was all online. I had ordered a different book from another local book store and that experience was not very good. Had it not been for the pandemic and my desire to support local during this time, I never would have found Charm City Books. I am so happy I did! From the very beginning communication was great! Every step of the way Charm City Books kept communicating with me and made me aware of the status of my order. I sort of screwed up a few things (I had a complicated order) and Charm City Books was patient and flexible with me. And the best part was my books were delivered WAY earlier than expected!
