The good, the bad, & the ugly

Ok not any ugly! But for sure good and not so good. The outfitter is very professional and it is a clean operation. The staff are very professional and made sure we had a good time for the most part. Processing our fishing licenses was quick and painless. The boat and store were nice and clean too. Transfers to and from the ship were great!

Now for the not so good. Our guides (Nate & Trenton) were very nice, professional, and respectful men. But they were not guides. They were fishermen. And that is what they did, fish. They really could have spent much more time with their customers and helping them flyfish. There was not a demonstration on how to cast a flyrod and they were no help to fisherman who had never fished before. They let bad form be bad form (fish do not like this), they fished in the good holes where the fish were and did not point the customer into this direction, and they did not pay attention to the needs of customers needing to navigate unfamiliar terrain. In my opinion, they should not even be carrying flyrods on a guided trip. In the end, this turned out to be a self-guided trip with a boat ride. This was a shore excursion that we booked through Royal Caribbean. The entire trip from the time we disembarked the ship, until we were dropped off again at the port was seamless. Every single person that we came into contact with was friendly, knowledgeable and genuine. We loved the boat ride to the island where the 4 X 4's were located. The boat captain shared a lot of information about the area. When we arrived and were dropped off for the 4 X 4 exploration, our tour guild was a very friendly young lady named Klyr. There was also a gentleman tour guild who's name I cannot remember who was also very knowledgeable and friendly. We really enjoyed this excursion and highly recommend it. The views and scenery are magnificent. The weather was also great on this day. Sunny and just beautiful overall. This trip was memorable. We will never forget it. Did not feel like this outfitter was super invested in us catching fish. We did not fish near any of the outfitters we fished near the day prior with a different charter where we caught a lot of fish. Stayed about a 20 min boat ride from Sitka harbor where the day prior boat ride was over an hour to get to the fish and near where all the better named outfitters where. I feel short changed in the experience and amount of fish I could have ultimately caught because the guide had a commitment at 1pm which I believe lead him to not take us to where the best fishing spot was and just stay close to Sitka area.
