FROZEN PATTIES FAKE CHEESE PRE COOKED BACON YELLED AT AND SHOVED BY OWNER
My husband and I went out for my birthday for burgers and pool, it was the first time going back to the pub after being bought by a new owner. The food was terrible compared to the burgers we use to love getting there. The patties were frozen and reheated... comparable to the size and thinness of a small McDonald's patty. Not at all what you would expect when each burger is $20. They were about 2 1/2" wide and less than 1/4" thick. The bacon was obviously pre-cooked and reheated for there was no flavor to it at all. Lettuce was brown, shreaded and mushy. Then the menu describes your cheese choices... they tried to pass of fake cheese as cheddar. When our server came back we asked her if the burgers were usually that small and why they put fake cheese on when we had asked for cheddar. Ten minutes later a man who was stumbling and slurring came out and started attacking a group of ten men sitting next to us thinking it was them who asked about their food. Considering the group hadn't even received their food yet they started making fun of the guy...he looked like an idiot. Then we spoke up saying it was us with the complaint. He immediately shoved us to the side grabbed our food and told us to get out and never come back while storming away cursing the whole time all the way through the restaurant. I don't know what drugs this guy was on or how much he had already drank by 5 in the evening but it was on the verge of psychopath. After embarrassing us screaming at us not to pay he doesn't want our service we still left the full amout of the bill to be left as a tip for the servers who where great. They apologized up and down and said that it happens all the time. We were thinking the guy was a cook but were told he was the owner. After he left his wife came stomping around us also cursing and slamming things around like a psycho, all while children were around, the people sitting at the bar said she was even more crazy than the man. All things considered it was very funny and entertaining and we laughed ourselves happily out of there. I really miss the old pub and the old owners, in a small town you cant treat locals that way unless you want your...

2019: We were greeted immediately upon arrival to what seemed would be a good experience. After being seated in a nice, but not the best table, we were promptly given menus and the obligatory iced water. After waiting and mulling over the menu a few more times and more waiting and watching the waiters try and figure out who was coming over to take our order. I'm guessing they played a game of reau cham beau, someone lost and had to take our table. We politely told the waiter what we would like to order. I really just wanted to have a nice dinner without any hassles. As the waiter, a while later, returned with a couple of beers, in what appeared to be child-sized glasses, I immediately asked if he had the right table and why would they be serving beer to children. It seems, the waiter thought we had asked for half-pints of beer. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Mr. Waiter? Who would, in their right mind, ask for a half-pint? Even leprechauns drink full-sized pints. I maybe Irish, but definitely no leprechaun. After the waiter went back to the bar and corrected this nearly inexcusable faux pas, we were presented with normal adult-sized pints. We set out for a hassle-free dining experience and had a handful of hiccups. A rollercoaster ride I was not looking for. However, the rest of our dining experience was quite uneventful. The food was well prepared by the chefs and I'm not sure I'll be...
Read moreThe Bayview is nice enough. Like, it's a good bar with some decent food and atmosphere. It's just that nothing stood out and I feel like it's a carefully cultivated image they put forth.
The decor is nice. It's on the top floor of the building it's in. Industrial-ish without the forced feeling you get from the "Axe & Toupee" or whatever hip bar you'll find in the newly gentrified district of (insert city here). The game area is sweet and it's got a solid view on nice days.
The service was good. My bartender was attentive and knowledgeable. He was wearing a vest and had a very trendy haircut, as did most of the staff, which was sort of a turnoff in a truly authentic small town like Sitka.
I've had the fish tacos and the rockfish fish and chips and they were both 4 star level good. This time I tried the meatball sub, which was an open faced disaster that tastes like bad Pad Thai sauce with mushrooms and meatballs.
This place is close to 4 stars for me, but I just can't get over the forced hip vibe in in a uniquely unhip town. I prefer the upscale but genuine aesthetic across the street at the Westmark, or the Pioneer Bar if you're looking good for that rowdy time. That said, I've been to worse bars and this would fit right in in most Seattle or Portland neighborhoods, so may even it's just ahead of its time.
Also, no wi-fi in in a tourist town without major carrier coverage is a HUGE...
