Gallant Adventures — Local services in Baranof Island

This was the FIRST independent shore excursion I have booked after 32 years of cruising! (I guess I let the threats of unscrupulous tour companies and missing "gangway up" get to me.). I found Gallant Adventures reviews on Cruise Critic and reached out based on the positive posts. Paul responded very quickly with a thorough description of the tour, pricing and the commitment to return us to the ship (not the shuttle line) on time. The rate was quite reasonable for a private tour and there was a very fair cancellation policy. We booked the Wildlife Boat Tour for our family of four with confidence. Leading up to the tour, communication was very good. We received confirmation and reminders along with day-of tour text messages. Paul even arranged our shuttle tickets to town to ensure we'd be at the meeting place in plenty of time. The weather was beautiful and the wildlife was amazing! We saw humpback whales, sea otters, sea lions, eagles and puffins. My husband is a photog and Paul made sure he had great angles and plenty of time to capture some great pics. (He even snapped a perfect shot of a breaching humpback!). We were all amazed at the distance we covered the afternoon of our tour! Of course, we were dropped-off right next to our ship on time :-) Paul was very friendly, informative and engaging. I would not hesitate to recommend Gallant Adventures to anyone looking for a private group wildlife...

My family had the most amazing three hour adventure last week with Captain Paul and Gallant Adventures!! Sitka was our first stop in Alaska, and Gallant Adventures was our first excursion!! What a wonderful way to start our trip! 🐋 We saw whales, sea otters, seals, puffins, starfish, and many different types of birds. Paul was full of information about the different animals we saw and the Sitka area. We learned a lot and had a fun time doing so! I did an extensive amount of research on excursions in Sitka before deciding to book with Gallant Adventures. What really impressed me was Paul's communication. I reached out to Paul in October 2023 for our August 2024 trip. He replied to my emails very quickly and answered all of my many questions! He gave me helpful information about the town of Sitka and some of the other things we wanted to do while in town. He was helpful and informative before we even booked with him. Paul also kept in constant contact via text the morning of our tour and literally met us as soon as we stepped off of the cruise ship shuttle bus. Paul was fantastic from the start to the finish of the trip. We had booked a 2 hour wildlife viewing trip that was closer to 4 hours because we all had the time, Paul included. We made a huge loop across the eastern channel and into Frosty Cove where we saw grey whales. We cut across toward St. Lazaria island and stopped for humpback whales and sea otters on the way. Once over to the island we were treated to (even more) beautiful scenery, some cave exploration while still in the boat, puffins, and more humpback whales. On or way back we stopped for a raft of sea otters, saw harbor seals, came upon a sea otter "nursery site" with two mom & pup pairs, one with a very sqawky pup. Paul's boat is small enough to get into places other crafts cannot but large enough and comfortable enough for the 7 total people aboard. The viewability on board is fantastic with large windows. Paul's knowledge of the local areas, wildlife, waterways, and other local greats is well rounded and thorough. He's super personable and easy going! Absolute pleasure of a trip!
