Coastal Tours Sitka — Local services in Baranof Island

My family and I had the most amazing time on our wildlife boat tour with Captain Rick! We’ve never been on a boat tour ever before, but now if we go on one again I don’t know if we’ll be able to top our memorable experience with CTS haha. We were able to spot sea otters (screenshot below), sea lions, and LOADS of whale watching! We even got lucky and saw some jumping whales (zoomed in screenshot below from my phone haha pictures don’t do any of this justice honestly)!! Huge plus also to Rick’s boat being super comfortable- it’s a newer boat with seats that are all cushioned, great indoor space with a heater and toilet, and water/ snacks were available as well. I love that this is a small boat, so it feels more personable where Rick could share about some history of the area, his expertise, and his experiences in general growing up in Sitka! My family personally also just enjoys less crowds where we can avoid it haha so it was the perfect size for us. Thank you for such a memorable day, Cpt Rick! My family booked a tour on September the 15th 2022. We were absolutely blown away by Rick's knowledge of the locations of whales, seals and sea otters. And how he got us up close and personal with all of them. We saw six humpback whales so close we had no need for the binoculars that we brought. He would point them out and even let us know when the whale was going to dive down and show his tail. The best thing was how personalized it was, we've been on other whale watching with 20 to 30 people and it was awful jockying for a position to get a picture of a whale. He even said that we were able to let him know what we want to do, it was our tour. He was very personable, easy to talk to and didn't make us feel like tourists but more like part of his family. I will never book another tour on a huge crowded boat going forward, will always stick to the more personalized tours like this one. My wife and I had an excellent day in Sitka thanks to Captain Rick with Coastal Tours Sitka. Booking with him was super easy. We texted the morning of our tour and found him at the cruise terminal, no problem. His boat is brand new, just a few weeks old, and has a super comfortable cabin, a small and spotless restroom, and plenty of deck space. Rick offered us snacks and drinks, asked us what wildlife we'd like to see and then guided the boat to just the right places to see them (my wife especially loved the colorful starfish and anemones), and filled the travel time with interesting stories about Sitka, wildlife, migratory patterns and more. He answered every question we had in a way that you only get from someone with a significant amount of experience. You'll have a much better time on a small, locally-owned tour like Rick's than you'll ever have on an excursion through the cruise ship.
