My father recently handed down his 1953 Winchester Model 94. It is a beautiful rifle. I was disassembling it for a thorough cleaning, when both of the barrel band screws broke!! I am confident in my machinist abilities, but I do not own a drill press so I needed to get this done else where. I dropped the Winchester off @ Crosshairs Texas Sunday evening February 8th. Troy and I agreed if the job was $40 or less, then go ahead and take care of it. I figured it would be a quick drill & tap job, I can order & install the new screws myself. I would call every couple of days to ask for an update and every time I called I got, " Oh you just needed a price quote, right?" Then I would be told that they would call me back with an update or price quote, which they never did. The gunsmith got blamed for the shop's slow work, saying that he could never be contacted (Load of crap). A week and a half had passed and I still had no clue what is being done, if anything, and how much it would cost me!! I call and tell them that I am tired of the lack of respect and poor customer service, and that I will be picking my rifle up after work; to have it ready. By some miracle, the gunsmith was contacted no less than 5 minutes later and was told to bring my rifle up to the shop. Troy gave me a call for the very first time and told me that the old screws have been drilled and tapped already, that the new screws were ordered on Wednesday. I then asked how much are we talking, and he said that I am under my $40 ceiling, so I went ahead and left it there. I would call requesting updates with no luck. Still waiting on screws.... What business doesn't use tracking numbers? What business takes 2+ weeks for their parts to arrive(Supposedly ordered from Brownells)? One that doesn't stay in business!! It took almost a month for this job to be done. Troy tried to charge me $120 for for a crappy drill job and 1 new screw. The other screw wasn't new like I was told, and wasn't even the right length!! Well because Troy never gave me an updated quote like he said he would, I paid the amount my quote was originally for.....$40. I now have to order new barrel bands and new screws for the job to be done correctly. They ruined my bands by over drilling. Do yourself a favor...go to BROTHERS IN ARMS!! I tried this new store because it was closer, and am so sorry that I did!! By the way, all gunsmith firearms are taken to someone's house, where it is unclear of the security...
Read moreRepeat customer here. Troy has done an excellent job repairing and improving several pistols for me, Devon has given me tons of revolver advice and has been gracious with a few returns, Keli was super helpful to me in securing my latest purchase, and Doug welcomed me to this community and is absolutely my most trusted instructor and advisor. I look forward to getting to know the rest of the staff as well - they've all always been super professional to me. Their range (just NE of Bastrop) is an awesome space and is a perfect location for calm, secure, and safe learning. What a great shop. These folks have been patient with me when I don't understand, helpful when I have questions, and encouraging when I want to progress in my knowledge and skills. This is MY SHOP. Yes, we all compare prices online, including me, but listen - Crosshairs maintains a solid in-stock inventory at fair prices. Yes, some items cost a little more than buying online, but their guidance and support and local presence is well worth the few $ difference. Whether you're just beginning to become curious about firearms, or you're a seasoned enthusiast who installs your own upgrades, Crosshairs Texas is where you go to move forward. I can't recommend them enough - they're...
Read moreIm giving a five star rating because I myself am in the customer service / sales industry and don't believe we should be scored in order to be told how were doing in our business .The reality though is I took two fire arms in for replacement PARTS!! and was invoiced up front for over two hundred dollars , received one gun that needed a replacement stock put on (GOT A REFURBISHED ONE Ruger 10/22) GUN NEW COST $200 and its repair alone exceeded $150 after adding initial check in cost .Still waiting on gun number 2 (Remington 11-87 )that need a fore grip and receiver pull tab replaced, its initial check in cost well over a $100 and well over a month later still no word on when it is set to be ready . If you want to pay a premium for seems to me simple work , just work that ought to be trusted to professional's and don't mind waiting forever and a month to get your guns back then yes I would recommend this place . I will definitely shop repairs around next time with all this...
