I called first to talk to a staff member about the rooms and difficulty. I always have some standard questions I ask based on what we are looking for in an escape game. Anything in any rooms had puzzles that are broken or currently not working. Nope, all in good shape. Great!
Are rooms were private or do I need to pay extra for that? Private once you book it, no extra charge for that. Awesome!
Last, I asked what their clue policy is. They said everyone needs clues to solve their rooms and that in 10 years nobody has solved a room without clues. This was actual red flag to me. It seems like a design flaw if none of the rooms can be solved without clues. But we went anyway. Challenge on.
Set design: We did Shawshank. The first part starts out in three prison cells. Set up is basic, but appropriate. Second room has a very true to the movie set.
Staff: lovely on the phone, very accommodating and helpful. āLovely in person. Made sure you knew how to properly use combo locks. Staff is a big plus.
Below, I tried to be vague in my review but also give examples of where I think this game falls short. If you donāt want to know any more stop reading HERE.
Overall Game: 2 rooms, lots of puzzles, but way too many combo locks. For example in the first room 7 out of 8 puzzles required finding numbers or letters for combination locks. Most puzzles relied on finding numbers, number manipulation (addition or subtraction), or patterns that could relate to numbers. There is somewhat of a cooperative effort being divided up at the start, but not as much as Iāve seen in other games with a similar starting set up. In the first part, there are exactly 3 puzzles to solve, 1 per cell, and the game cannot progress until those are solved.
Overall game impression on the plus side, theme is on point and is a classic prison break. You donāt need to know the movie to do the room. A human is not triggering or next step. The puzzles we saw that were not number/letter based triggered automatically when solved (good design there). Lots of puzzle.
Overall impression on the negative side, too many combos, not enough creativity in the puzzle designs. Overly complex in one of the written clues and in the final puzzle. Some of the locks are small and hard to read numbers and thereās another clue where we couldnāt even see the numbers (fine for younger eyes and hands, not so much for anyone who left their reading glasses at home or for anyone with arthritis in the fingers).
Clues from staff: We did end up asking for some clues and staff only gave them when we asked. We were VERY clear that we absolutely did not want clues unless we asked and that we were willing to not escape. Staff was awesome on that end. The clues were helpful without being overt (on a TV screen). If you donāt want clues be very clear and be sure all game masters know.
Clues you find behind Locks: Some things you find and use right away and some clues are need until much later in the game. Some clues in locked boxes are red herrings, and some things are used more than once. Design here is a bit muddy, not streamline.
Final conclusion: My initial gut was right. Thereās an inherent design flaw if at least 5-10%+ of people canāt escape from any room without clues. If you are new to escape games and/or want hints and clues totally go, it will be fun and you will likely give it 4 or 5 stars! If you are an avid escape game player and love the thrill of solving without clues, go try it and be super clear you donāt want clues. If you want novel puzzles or canāt live with the flaws pointed out above, skip this one altogether. On the fence if Iād go back and try a different a different room.
We did end up asking for a few clues on, but we waited too long to do so. This is the first game in 13 years where we did not escape. Regardless, I still would NOT have wanted unsolicited clues and Iām glad that clues were only provided when requested. Thanks to the amazing staff for honoring...

If youāre seeking an escape room that offers a perfect blend of storytelling, challenge, and fun, look no further than Axxiom Escape Room! My friend and I recently tackled The Masonās Temple, and it was a truly memorable experience.
From the moment we entered, our game master set the stage with enthusiasm and a great sense of humor, instantly drawing us into the adventure. They were incredibly supportive throughout, offering just the right amount of hints when we were stuck, but never taking away from the excitement of the puzzle-solving process.
The storytelling in The Mason's Temple was captivating. The theme of the secret society and its ancient mysteries created an immersive atmosphere, and the room design itself was stunning. Every element of the environment felt like it was part of a grand, unfolding story. We found ourselves completely absorbed in the narrative from start to finish.
The puzzles were intuitive and brilliantly designed. They challenged us to think outside the box, but everything made sense in the context of the theme. There was a great mix of puzzles that required logic, teamwork, and even a bit of creativity. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into making the experience flow smoothly.
As a small group of just two people, we were a little unsure of our chances, but we successfully escaped with only minutes to spare! The room was challenging, but not impossible, and we felt a real sense of accomplishment as we pieced everything together.
If you're looking for a fun, intellectually stimulating adventure, The Mason's Temple at Axxiom Escape Room is definitely worth checking out. Itās perfect for small groups who want to put their wits to the test. Weāre already planning our next visit to take on another one of their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just did the Mason's Temple, a 90 minute escape Experience. I did it with 2 other people and we finished with 11 minutes left. It was definitely one of the more challenging rooms I've done (I've done over 25 rooms) and I understand why 90 minutes was needed. Its large with a lot of puzzles. It was very engaging. It was also one of the most visually appealing rooms I've done. A couple minor gripes; I wish the lights worked better. (You'll understand once you do it) and the rope puzzle felt a little frustrating. A map or something to better point to locations rather than have to look at a map on my phone. That took me out of the experience for a minute. TJ was an amazing host as he never offered up the answers to any puzzles unprovoked and when we did ask for a couple hints he didn't tell us the answer straight away. Instead, he gave us further clues to help guide us and I really appreciated that. Overall the room was really cool and I would definitely recommend. We came on a road trip from Chicago and it did...
