My mother was there for treatment. Not only did they inform us of the wrong price and then demanded we pay $4500 THAT day because of the mistake they made. The administrator Andrew, gave us the wrong prices and then his comment was "We had to be STUPID to think we would get any treatment for that price". No admittance to quoting us a wrong price, no apology, nothing. Then upon taking my mother to a doctor for anxiety and labs. She was not informed of the results, they broke the law and contacted my sister and gave her the results. Following that, instead of contacting us for payment of the doctors appointment. They saved my mothers boyfriends card information which was against the law for one. But contacted him for payment of the doctors visit instead of contacting us. His name was nowhere on the contract or was he stated anywhere as a point of contact. We have received ZERO emails of receipts, admittance emails or anything regarding my mother. Treatments and facilities ways are not carried out as promised and stated on the website. We decided to drive and get her. We did not inform them due to prior patients informing us they WILL put them out if not cooperating with their ways. We live 10 hours away and reached the facility at 9am. Upon arrival we walked in to speak with the counselor whom was LOVELY! She helped my mother SOOO much, only the best interest in mind. (Greeted by Andrew whom had no apologies or things to say, only a very rude attitude) After constant attempts to convince us to leave her at the facility (she agreed go). The facility director Jennifer wanted to speak with me and my sister, especially after finding out of the laws broke and contracts breached. She very rudely informed us that she heavily advised against us taking our mother home, that we were making a huge mistake, that my mother was a raging alcoholic and we would let her continue down the same path. Which I found extremely unprofessional. My sister eventually became upset and informed the woman we would be leaving, with my mother, and no other payments would be made. Then Jennifer the director stood up and told us that we had to wait 72 hours before we were allowed to receive any of her belongings, documents, contracts and even that we could not take my mother with us. After a moment I went in to get my mother where the woman wouldn't let me in the room, I overheard them attempting to convince my mother to stay, that she HAD to stay so I made my way into the room. Upon entrance of the room Jennifer demanded I get out and I had no right to be in there. Where I stated I had FULL rights to be apart of the conversation of her discharge and future treatment plans after leaving. She followed with arguing with me, demanding I get out and that she wouldn't disclose any information with me. For my mothers sake I stepped out. Where I then overheard her say that we(my sister and I) were Brats, and we were going to KILL my mother and let her go back downhill! At that moment my mother stepped out and I demanded we left at that moment. This is a VERY LONG story made as short as possible. I do not recommend sending anyone to this facility. Not only are they money hungry, they are liars and extremely unprofessional. My sister and I went in very calmly with our heads on our shoulders but once she decided to argue with us, I became angered. We left without any paperwork, they refused to give us any of her items(clothes, money, birth certificate, insurance cards etc). The pictures on the website are not true, the rooms are shared by anywhere of 4-5 people at a time. Group sessions are numbered around 25 and it is more of a screaming match. Not only are these words from my mother but other patients as well whom spoke with me and informed me of these things. Patients are hardly monitored, in the hour I was there 2 patients were behind the building smoking marijuana. Multiple patients have brought in alcohol, drugs and acted sexually in the bathrooms and things. This company is sideways, crooked and extremely unprofessional. I hope this will...
Read moreFirst the good, then the bad.
Good- The people and the community. A majority of the staff, clinicians, and therapists are great. The "clients" or patients were all very accepting as well. I was quite nervous when I arrived, but left feeling like I had made a family. They are my base. The apartments were great, clean and the pool (although rules made it rarely able to use) was nice. I felt very safe in the center,
alternative therapies are a great option. I truly enjoyed equine therapy, art therapy, yoga and meditation.
Most importantly, I grew a lot while at WRC, and hope to take what I have and move forward now that I am home.
The bad: I was sold a bill of goods that this was a non-theological and not biblically based center. This was a complete and utter lie. Bible quotes were plastered in my kitchen, my bedroom, and even my closet . Bible quotes on the walls of the center, all meetings started with affirmations to God, Jesus, etc. They also say "higher Power. Sure, Jan.
I understand that AA/NA is a front for christian indoctrination of people at their weakest moment in life, and pretty much ALL clinics use them, * but * was told there was an even balance between AA/NA (1930s antiquated therapies) and more recent therapies like Dharma recovery and SMART recovery (science based) at WRC. A lie.
EVERY morning you read from AA/NA books and are told that if you don't follow the 12 steps (and accept god), you will die from your addiction (Wheeeeee!).
This is where I had to advocate for myself and other fellow clients. Food- You are expected to prepare all your meals in the apartment yourself. Which is fine, the apartments have better kitchens than most houses I've lived in. BUT, you get $75 a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, Mike and Ike's, food storage, beverages, sodas, milk, toiletries such as shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, dish washing pods/detergent etc. Pretty much anything other than windex and floor cleaner. The $75 a week has been what they have been handing out for many, many years. Apparently God doesn't believe in inflation (WalMart neighborhood market sure as hell does).
Lack of coordination : Now, I can forgive a lot of this as it is impossible to staff any business these days, but there were NUMEROUS times something was scheduled and cancelled due to lack of staffing or techs. Don't tell people that they are going to go somewhere and then yank the carpet out from them. Or, better yet, completely leave them stranded in the parking lot at the center forcing them to walk home on a weekly basis (It's a nice short, safe and beautiful walk, but against the rules for PHP clients)
Drug pushing: Not from the drug-addicted clients, but from the local psychiatrist (who you meet for 30 seconds to 2 minutes a week). She seems to think the best way to cure people with drug and alcohol addictions is to give them more drugs. Lots of Rx drugs. All the Rx drugs. Overall, if I needed to return to rehab, I would absolutely come back to WRC. But this is knowing what I am in for and knowing how to pull teeth to get things corrected when they need to be. I'm a bit of a "take no BS" guy, so I can handle it. Many people (especially the younger folk) are not, and they can get walked over. ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF. ADVOCATE FOR COMMUNITY. ADVOCATE FOR YOUR NEW FAMILY.
Would I recommend WRC to any friends or family needing treatment? Yes. I absolutely would, 100%, but I would prepare them. I know this might have sounded bitter, frankly I don't care.
I thoroughly grew as a person, made a difference in my own life , and I hope the lives of others in the community. All I ask is that WRC be more honest when recruiting new clients. I am not the only one who fell for the biblical...
Read moreSeveral months ago, experiencing extreme issues related to anxiety and depression, my 18 year old daughter discovered the Wellness Resource Center. My daughter is a student at university in Colorado. We live in Washington, DC. I was very apprehensive about choosing a place I had never heard of that was also geographically distant. The referral came through a kind, smart and thoughtful man, Tom Bennett. Tom came to our attention through a close family friend. He answered my questions and I took a chance. Flew my daughter from Denver to Boca within 24 hours. We had never experienced a treatment program of any kind much less visited one. To say that we were nervous is an understatement. Then, we met my daughter’s therapist, Maricay O’Shea. Wow. That was the game changer then and remains so now. Maricay is exceptionally talented, deeply professional, and profoundly skilled at supporting and effectively guiding her clients through their journey. Maricay has impressed me time and again with her 24/7 level of commitment on behalf of my daughter. Recovery is complicated, of course. Maricay’s intellectual capacity infused by the unique knowledge one can only attain having recovered herself and having spent years as a classroom teacher. That fusion of gifts makes Maricay’s abilities truly sterling. My daughter is a strong, confident young woman ready to meet the challenges of her life thanks to Maricay, in particular, and the amazing community at WRC. Are there inevitable bumps along the way? Yes. And we had a few. But that will exist in every case and in every place. It’s human nature. What made the difference for my daughter and our family was the calm, professional and kind manner in which Gary and WRC resolved issues. The team of therapists - Shannyn guided our family therapy brilliantly! - are all outstanding. But if you can get Maricay, count your blessings. She is special in every way. Maricay was meant to be a therapist. It is her calling and I have seen it up close. Through this process, I have talked with dozens of friends and colleagues about their experiences with family members. I realize now more than ever how blessed we are to have found Maricay. As a lifelong educator who has worked for two US presidents and three US Secretaries of Education, I also have some additional insights. I rarely write reviews. It is even rarer that I offer this level of praise. I do so because it was earned, warranted and deserved. Kudos to Gary for managing a superior center. We will always be grateful for the wisdom and care of Tom at Acadia in Nashville who found the perfect fit for my daughter. My daughter’s recovery is ongoing. But I am confident, as is she, in her future because of one person: Maricay O’Shea. If you are considering a treatment program, you would find the...
