I visited Equinox gym last night with my husband as a guest from The Ritz Carlton which is connected to the gym. My husband and I were encouraged to take a walk through the gym as I am a competitive athlete and was very excited to see what this gym had to offer. Unaware of their no camera policy (again we were visitors not members so we were unaware of any policies) I had my phone out to take short video clips of the gym equipment to showcase how nice the facility happened to be. As we were on our way out an employee stops us and kindly informed us that there is a no camera policy, we apologized, I put my phone away and we continued towards the door to leave. As we approached the door an angry member by the name of Joe angrily approached us and looks at me and says "you can't be taking f*ing pictures in here" then turns to my husband and says "you ahole I know two Boston police officers and I will have you two arrested". My husband says excuse me and who are you? Joe replies "I'm the owner". BIG lie. Joe was literally Joe blow the average member at his local gym who apparently was highly bothered by an Italian man with his Black American wife taking a tour through the gym he belongs to. His disrespectful vulgarity, insults, and threats were not taken lightly. I was in fear as now days you don't know who has a gun and will use it. I ask the Equinox staff to call the police and NOT ONE STAFF MEMBER CALLED THE POLICE! After several requests for the police to be called I finally called them myself and filed a report against Joe. Thankfully EVERYTHING was captured on video. A female manager of Equinox actually reviews the video and confirmed that Joe approached us and incited this situation. Equinox did not do one thing to make me feel at ease and I do NOT recommend this gym to anyone. STAY AWAY FROM EQUINOX IF YOU ARE HARASSED OR THREATENED THEY DO NOT CARE. Extremely poor service. By the way there are all kinds of videos taken at this very location...
Read moreIt’s a well built gym with tons of different machines for everyone and the staff are friendly. However, they are very bait when it comes to anything related to money. They have initiation fees, pause fees, and even require a 30 day prior notice before cancellation without any notice. The first problem I experienced was when it was during the month of Ramadan, where I had to fast and with work as a student, going to the gym would be impossible. When I requested to have it paused, my account manager said that it wouldn’t be a problem. But without any notice, they just charged me with some amount. After talking to the manager they had it refunded. The second problem I experienced was when I had to focus on my education and wanted to cancel the subscription. I requested the cancellation a week prior and my account manager kept stalling and asking me random questions and when it was finally time for the next month transaction, I was connected to the general manager and was informed that my last day is a month from then. After asking my manager about why there was a transaction even though I asked for it be canceled, I never got a response again. My third problem was when I contacted customer support after 3 weeks because I’ve had midterms and was unable to follow up. I was told over and over again that the club did me a “favor” since cancellation cannot happen until after a year of being a regular. What???? Keep in mind I sent over 4 text messages and 3 emails regarding the situation and the only response I received was “it’ll be affected until __ because there’s 30 day cancellation policy” which was 3 weeks after my first request. As mentioned, very money-grabbing attitudes by the staff, which wasn’t visible in the beginning. As much as I enjoyed the gym atmosphere and my workout routine there, I will not be coming back again due to...
Read moreI recently cancelled my membership at Equinox Sports Club Boston due to relocation, but I couldn’t leave without sharing my wonderful experience! I first joined Equinox in November 2022, and after a brief stint as an employee at Equinox Bethesda, I returned to Boston and rejoined as a member on June 1, 2024. Every moment spent at this club has been truly exceptional!
First, I want to express my gratitude to Matt Strutt, the General Manager, for creating such a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. Second, a special shoutout to Michael Mlambo, my membership advisor, who was always there to help and make the process smooth and enjoyable.
One of the most impressive changes I noticed upon my return was the upgraded equipment and furniture throughout the club. It really enhances the workout experience and makes the environment feel fresh and inviting.
Since I rejoined, I participated in over 100 group fitness classes, and the instructors are simply top-notch! Emily Comerford’s Playground Experience class was a standout; her energy and creativity made every session a joy. Paula Fonseca’s Pilates classes were fantastic for building strength and flexibility, and I always left feeling revitalized. And Maryanne Blake’s Ropes & Rowers class was an exhilarating challenge that kept me engaged and motivated!
As I relocate to the Midwest, I’ll truly miss this incredible community. I made a ton of friends at this fitness club. Thank you, Equinox Boston, for the amazing memories and the fantastic fitness foundation you’ve helped me build. I’ll carry these experiences with me...
