This gym is a joke. This is the only gym near me for lifting on the spot.
Unfortunately and generally the Asian high school (BOYS) and even Asian men, claim the weight room like its theirs. I totally understand that this is in Chinatown, and the Chinese and Asian community are the predominant majority. But that doesnt mean that you should feel entitled enough to take over the weights and lifting machines for a whole hour, then there's the texting, screaming and/or playing around with your friends while other people are waiting for you to finish your "workout", it's disrespectful as hell. Nice to be young and energetic, but the weight room isn't a playground.
Even the staff allows this behavior. The staff is there to keep this place as organized and efficient as possible. Not play around with the high schoolers as I've seen many times. They close the gym a little later than 10 just to satisfy the boys, but if none of these boys were there, they'd be kicking us the regular people out by 9:45
A lot of the members who I've talked to feel this way as well, and feel a little too skeptical and uncomfortable with lifting in the weight room because like I said, the lifting area is claimed by these folks from 12pm till closing. It's almost impossible to complete my lifting sessions here.
My gym partner had enough too, he was coming with me as well. As he says, "The only thing these boys are gaining is stares, cause everyone's tired of their bull**"
Staff. Dont be so biased just because you built a relationship with these man-children and students. People of all colors and races come to this gym too and want to use the machines as well So, why dont you do your job and monitor the machines and the weight room like you should to avoid people from abusing time? Nobody should feel like they cant go inside a weight room because its aimed to a specific race. I hate to come off as the bitter one, but I pay a good amount of money for this kind of...

I have been using this facility a few times a week for months now through their nationwide program (I’m a member of an out of state Y). The staff is always friendly and accommodating with safety first in mind. I mainly use this place for weight training and stretching and they have everything I need to get closer to my fitness goals. First off, the lockers and bathrooms are always clean, along with the rest of the facility. The weight room may seem a bit small at first glance but even in peak times there isn’t an issue getting the workout in that I plan for the day. Good move on their part having two squat racks. The facility also has two full sized basketball courts that alternate for community activities such as volleyball, ping pong and general adolescent gym (I believe they coordinate with nearby schools for physical education). The events when the courts are not free are posted so that anyone can plan around the schedule to have time to shoot some hoops. I’ve never had an issue with the young kids being disrespectful or in the way of what I’m there to do. They also have many treadmills, stair climbers, row machines, stationary bikes, weight machine circuit, and even a pool. They just got a push sled as well which I’m very excited about. I have travelled all around the country for my job most of my adult life and have been to probably 40+ YMCA’s over the years. The Wang YMCA makes the most of their space and has the kind of community focused efforts that should come standard with any Y. The only complaint that I could possibly bring up is their not being open on Sundays but in all honestly I wouldn’t even want that to change. I respect the idea of the staff having a designated day each week to focus on whatever they please in their personal lives. They...
Read moreI hate making negative reviews centered around a specific person, but after talking to other members who also feel the same way I feel like it needs to be addressed. There seems to be a short younger asian girl possibly a supervisor of some sort that has a very nasty attitude. She has an air of “you’re inconveniencing me for anything you ask for” and the mean look she often has doesn’t make it any easier. It really doesn’t take much to be kind to your fitness members. I know some people can be challenging to deal with, but as someone in the service industry I’ve come to understand that one customer’s bad actions shouldn’t make you treat all other customers like crap. This young lady needs to check her attitude because it is very unwelcoming. The morning guys especially the young man with glasses is always so kind and helpful, same for the older Asian lady and the bald gentleman. On top of this a few weeks ago my brother had to use the restroom (he’s a ymca member in NY) everyone on the desk wanted to help but this young lady abruptly said NO and brushed me off. Life is too short to be this bitter and rude over something as mundane as a quick restroom run. If this lady keeps this attitude I would go as far as to cancel my membership and simply take my business to another fitness club....
