Unfortunately, I had a negative experience at WIM.
Initial visit: The physical therapist had me stand, jump, and walk with bare feet. I gave a summary of my pains and injuries and she asked about when it hurt, and what made it better/worse. She showed me some toe yoga. I was surprised that in a running-focused practice, she didn’t ask to see me run at all or even ask anything about my form or foot strike!
Follow ups: During the following visits, I continuously paid $95 for a “45-min follow up”, which was just 25 minutes of massage or cupping. Each time, she asked how it felt afterwards, and I noted that it did not help, and the cupping actually hurt my legs for the following week. I was VERY surprised that the PT never gave any strengthening exercises for my hips or legs, and still never asked me to run. She didn’t mention a plan moving forward, or tell me what she thought the pain was. I was disappointed that she didn’t ask questions about my running routine, mileage, or gait. She didn’t have me do any exercises to make note of what my body did or areas that are deficient.
After emailing WIM to state my disappointment (& my confusion over being billed $138 months after my last visit), the owner called me to discuss, but I only got to explain my experience for a few seconds before he interrupted to defend himself & the practice. I didn’t get to say most of what I wanted to explain and suggest, and just felt attacked. He defended the PT by saying that she has a loyal following. This doesn’t take away my experience. He also stated that I hadn’t been weekly and that PT only works if you’re consistent. I was honest from the start with the PT and said that I can’t go weekly and pay $400+/mo in PT bills, so would try for biweekly but would love any exercises to do at home or the gym daily if needed. I had trouble getting on the schedule with my work hours and they were fully booked for Boston Marathon season, so that didn’t help. Still, a weekly massage can’t solve anything, no matter how consistent you are. PTs aren’t magic but there was no comprehensive exam or plan of action from the beginning. No leg/hip strengthening exercises, which actually help when done regularly. I got off the call feeling so upset & shamed, holding back tears, and felt even worse about this place.
Since then, I have had an AMAZING experience at another nearby PT practice. She watched me walk, jog, had me do a couple of other exercises to see what my legs/feet/knees did during. She had me lay down and felt different areas of my legs to see where was tight/felt different. She immediately noted that I run on my toes, that my patellas sit high, note the places my muscles felt tight & tell me why that may be. She gave me a few different strength exercises for my legs and hips, and talked about a plan of care going forward. I left the session feeling uplifted and excited for my next session. This was the experience I was missing at WIM. NONE of this was done at the initial appointment with WIM.
Update: the reply to my review incorrectly states that the PT put me on a treadmill and analyzed my gait. This never occurred. I never had the opportunity to walk or run on a treadmill here & it’s unfortunate that this has been incorrectly documented. I did show her a video of my running on a treadmill and asked if she would provide feedback because that hadn’t occurred at any prior appointments and I felt it was essential (ideally at the initial appt).
I would highly recommend WIM provide a detailed assessment at its initial appointments, like the other PT experience that I mentioned above, which was thorough and comprehensive.
Regardless of whether I came 1 or 100 times in a year, the initial appointment and assessment should be comprehensive and complete, and a plan of action (including strengthening, gait analysis, etc.) should be created. Neither of these occurred. The reply does not address this part of my review, only the fact that I was only there a few times and they spanned longer than they...
Read moreThe absolute BEST treatment center I have ever been to. Excellent physical therapy and life-changing sports massages. I wish I had found out about this place years ago. I saw Dr. Kayla Serowik and Dr. Christine Frechette for physical therapy, and both of them were amazing. Not only did they show me the exercise to treat my issues, they also helped educate me on what I could do to prevent future injuries. On top of that, they were both incredibly patient and encouraging - therapeutic on multiple levels!
I also get sports massages from Michelle Herrmann, and this has been a game changer. I have gone to a wide variety of skilled massage therapists (sports, deep tissue, Thai, etc.), and Michelle is the best, by far. Her massages are so healing and have helped my performance so much, as well as stave off potential injuries!
Before going to Wellness in Motion, I really struggled to progress in any sport because I got injured so often. Now, with the amazing combination of physical therapy and sports massages, my body is healthier and stronger than it has been in over 20 years! Incredibly grateful for this place.
Several of my friends have gone here as well, all with similar experiences. Most of them have gone to see Lauren Lozier, who is...
Read moreThere aren't enough positive things I can say about my experience here. Every single person I've interacted with has been warm, genuinely helpful and friendly and welcoming. I initially came for what I thought was wrist pain, diagnosed by my PCP as carpal tunnel, as it was a physical therapy office super close to my job. However during my initial session working with Dr. Lauren, we discovered it was actually triceps nerve entrapment and through her exercises and encouragement, my pain is resolved!
Alongside Dr. Lauren's PT expertise, I also took a chance on "treating myself" to a massage with Gerard. I'm not sure I can write a proper review that would express just how grateful I am to him for his attentiveness and unique style. What was originally thought to be a one time treat, has become a routine I look forward to between each of my sessions. As much as I don't want him to become even harder to book appointments with, I encourage anyone considering a massage for pain or mobility issues, to go see him. I promise, you...
