On June 6, 2025, my wife bought a dress at the Johnson City Belk for $22.35. Clearly printed on the receipt was "Return by July 21st." My wife returned the dress to the Bristol Belk with her receipt and was told that since she was returning the dress beyond 30 days of purchase, she was not entitled to the full price that she paid but the lowest price the dress sold for in the past 30 days. She was refunded $15.12 which was $7.23 less than what she paid for it. While we felt this was unfair and contrary to the clear language on the receipt, my wife accepted the lesser amount and we continued shopping.
Imagine our surprise and disappointment when we found within 20 minutes of the return, the same dress back on the clothes rack with a price of $25 which was more than what my wife paid for (see attached picture). We first questioned the sales clerk that handled the refund and after being told about a 30 day return policy which again was not printed on the receipt, I asked to speak to a manager. I ended up speaking to Devon who told me that it was corporate policy that any return past 30 days of purchase would result in a refund of the lowest sale price. When I questioned him about the clear language on the receipt that said a return must be made by July 21st and not July 6th (the 30th day), he had no answer other than to tell me about the unwritten 30 day policy.
We decided to take this up with the Belk Corporation and after numerous attempts was finally able to speak to a customer service representative that understood our complaint and agreed that it was not fair. She told us that she would check into a gift card for the difference but would have to submit the request to a supervisor. Instead of a gift card, we received an email from Belk again telling us of a non-published 30 day return policy. When pressed why the clear language of the receipt contradicted their so-called 30 day policy, no reply was given. When confronted as to why this policy is not stated on receipts for the benefit of customers, again no reply.
For over 30 years my wife and I have been loyal Belk customers regardless of the brand (Parks Belk and Belk Lindsey). No more. We will shop other retail merchants that give full refunds even if it is in the form of a gift card. As a retired Sullivan County prosecutor who knows professionally what a problem Belk has with shoplifting, now I know where they are making up for the loss: through this type of nonsense.
While in the store on this date, I noticed a large area on the second floor that is empty of merchandise and racks. Now I know why Belk is struggling. Belk...
Read moreI know it's black friday but I went here to get jewelry for my wife for our very first christmas together as a married couple. I was looking through the jewelry and a lot of it was on discount which is great and I knew there was gonna be a lot of people there had no problem with that. But here is the problem that I had. I was waiting behind one couple with some of the jewelry. That was discounted off.I wanted to look at the higher jewelry around the three hundred too 4 hundred dollar range. The lady looked at me that was helping them out and said if you need to check out you go away there. Because the jewelry that you have is not to high dollar jewelry that's here in a hateful voice. I told her that I wanted to look at the jewelry in there.Because I have the money to get it.She looks straight at me.Because I am wearing a Tommy Hilfiger jacket. That's the same amount as most of those jewelry in there and she automatically did the judging crap which pisses me off. I told the lady. I don't want to hear it that you're being very hateful. Then her boss comes and tries to be smart as well saying, a bunch of hateful stuff so I didn't get the jewelry and walked out of the store. They need to learn how to teach there staff better here. Because this is unacceptable from this store and I will never be coming back here again. Would give this store a zero but can't...
Read morestopped by this store and was immediately overwhelmed with the strong scent of perfume or air freshener. It’s like they’ve doused the building in it to mask the unpleasant smell of the stained and dirty carpet. The building has Gucci handbags but does not have one square foot of clean carpet. Also the escalator was broken so we were detoured to the elevator in the back which had a shelf of edible treats and food. They had honey containers with honeycomb inside turned vertically which were leaking on the shelf and the surrounding items. Mine and my son’s hands were sticky and filthy after we checked them out. (We had no idea that they were leaking until we picked them up) Bottom line, this building is filled with expensive items that are housed in a gross environment. Purchase your items online or just check out the many clothing stores near this location. also, the lady working the counter at the second floor could use an attitude adjustment. She was rude and obviously was not pleased with her current...
