City Fare Cafe and Catering — Restaurant in Buffalo

I was eager to try out this new downtown cafe as it is right down the street from my office. I walked over around 12:15p and got into a short line of 5-6 people. It took a few minutes to get to the counter, which gave me a chance to select my lunch from the menu.

I was most surprised by how "different" this menu is from the rest of the soup/salad/sandwich spots downtown. The ingredients, such as fresh BreadHive bread, lots of vegetables and wide array of flavor profiles, really set it apart and make it interesting instead of just sticking with "the norm." The prices ranged mostly from $8-$10 for salads and sanwiches. I ordered Item #2 on the sandwich menu (fresh sliced turkey breast, avocado spread, bacon, lettuce, tomato, toasted BreadHive bread), added a bag of chips and a can of "craft" root beer for a total of $11.

The sandwich only took about 5-7 minutes to prepare, and was a little over-packaged (the large brown bag + serving tray was a bit cumbersome for the size of the meal). The quality was fantastic, however. The ingredients were super fresh (e.g., bright green lettuce, beautiful red tomato, freshly cooked sizzling bacon) and the BreadHive bread was fantastic. The serving size was perfect, just enough to fill me up but not make me feel over-stuffed. I can't wait to try another sandwich from the menu!

The rest of the cafe was very quaint, with around 6 tables for two, 2 tables for four and a small bar seating area. It's not great for large groups, but perfect for a lunch for two or quick take-out. I highly recommend stopping in. Even after only 3 days of service, they were operating at a higher rate than many other spots...

This is my favorite place to eat downtown. Nicest people in the world inside and the best soup I've ever had I think...the cheddar broccoli or the cheddar cauliflower is so darn good. We love this little downtown lunch place! The food is fresh and delicious, everything we have eaten is great!! My kid LOVES their soups. Today we had clam chowder and this homey rich potato cheddar. The salads are crisp and fresh, and the portions: you will leave full with leftovers!! Absolutely worth visiting, and the owners are amazing. So friendly and hard working. ...
