Cato Fashions — Local services in Bulverde

This review is not based on clothes but instead, a worker. I was there today (Wed Jul 7) around 5:30… I came into the store to kill some time waiting for something, thought why not, let’s have a look around. I walked in and automatically went to the right side of the store and checked it out. Thought it was quite dull so made my way over the left side, saw more cute clothes and thought ok cool found my vibe, as I was about to pick up my first piece of clothing…a lady (kinda professor Trelawney looking, no offense) said kinda loud (not quiet at all): “are you shopping for yourself?” I kinda stuttered… just looking around I thought but “yes” came out. She then said “what are you, like an extra large?” Again I kinda stuttered… I mean I would hope more like a large, I’m trying really hard be a medium but all that came out was “yeah I guess” Then she said “that’s what I thought, you’re shopping on the wrong side” ……… Ok, so I’m not quick witted and I was trying to process what was going on. Of course at this point I think she’s saying I’m too fat to be shopping on this side. So I just stare at her in disbelief …. Then she said “this is plus size. You’re on the wrong side, you should be on that side”. I look around. I’m now making eye contact with others who are shopping in the plus size section. And I, like any “good girl” does what she is told, puts down the piece of clothing and just walks to the other side still in disbelief again just trying to take in everything but with every step I take, crippling anxiety over takes me… so I take a hard right and walk quickly out of the store. At this point I have had my size guessed out loud, been told I’m shopping on the wrong side being led to assume I’m too fat then have been publicly compared to others.

Now I know this next part is a me problem, not a we problem… but I always feel self conscious going shopping, I never feel like anything will look good on me, I always feel like I don’t deserve new clothes bc I can’t get bellow a size 10, and I found the courage to walk into the store, “be confident” is what I told myself, and this interaction totally crushed me.

Now, I also know that I believe this lady meant well. I don’t feel like she meant to be rude or disrespectful HOWEVER I feel she should either know better or needs to be reminded how to greet guest and make them feel welcomed and safe to shop for whatever and WHEREVER they’d like. A simple “hello, are you shopping for yourself today? Awesome! Well half the store is plus-size and half is junior, let me know if you have any questions!” if someone felt the need to let me know I was on the “wrong side”… or better yet… the basic go-to: “let me know if you have any questions” would have sufficed.

I am willing to delete this review if I can know that the lady is aware of how that interaction affected someone and how although I think she meant well, I think she needs to tone down the size guessing and the shop directing. I’m not an idiot, I know how to shop. I do NOT want her fired, I’m so happy she’s out there working, but a good convo might be...

I absolutely love shopping at the Cato Fashion store in Spring Branch! This is because Theresa works there!! I met Theresa for the first time as a customer. She is, without a doubt, the most helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable worker I have ever met in the clothing business. She actually checks on you to see if you need a different size or style. Theresa truly goes the extra mile when it comes to customer service!! I always walk out of the store with clothing...

Bought 2 blouse a month apart and both had holes in them after 5 dry cleanings. I never take clothes back, but decided to tell store about issues with blouses. They said because you don't have receipts and it's been 3 months there was nothing they would do. I wasn't looking for a refund, just wanted to bring it to their attention. They didn't care. I really liked this store, but...
