China King Restaurant — Restaurant in Bulverde

Great atmosphere but very poor service. The waitress was not very friendly we're forthcoming or informative about anything. The food was not very good at all and it was very small portions. I sent my food back and I didn't want to order anything else. It wasn't until we left that the owner talked to me and told me next time to let them know how to cook the vegetables or if I like something a little bit different to let them know. Well the waitress said that we could not substitute anything or make any changes to what we were ordering so I assumed we couldn't do any of that and if the owner would have came over to my table when I first sent the food back and explain what she explained to me once we left I might would have ordered something else. The owner was very nice very friendly I liked her very much. You can tell from the other customers in the store that they were regular customers and that they liked the food and that's what caused the atmosphere to be so good. But the waitress was not friendly didn't smile she answered questions respectfully but she just wasn't friendly or nice she had a bit of an attitude like she didn't even want to be there. And like you were wasting your time whenever you called her over to your table to ask a question. So we probably won't return. I really didn't like the food. Also the place is pretty dark and dingy looking. But that could just be because it's older. Other people might like the food so I wouldn't take that as a reason not to go there. Yikes! My wife and I went here looking for a good Chinese food experience unfortunately that was not the case. My wife ordered the broccoli beef and I ordered the general chicken. Both had decent enough flavor until my wife noticed her food had small worms (not just one) in it! After looking at my plate I noticed mine had small hair in it. We brought this up to the waitress and pointed out the issues she seemed pretty indifferent about the situation. The manager (?) came out and just said they “boiled the broccoli first”. Not sure how that helped but we decided not to finish either of our meals and go somewhere else. Our waitress then brought our full bill to the table, I explained that there should be some kind of discount as we did not eat our food and oh ya WORMS! They decided to remove one of the meals and left the other. We will never be going back and encourage everyone to look elsewhere. I ordered the chow mein with Jasmine tea. I got vegetables with wonton chips on top and a mug of black tea. I asked for a new pot and got one with a green tea bag and a black tea bag. I would rather be told you don’t serve jasmine tea than fake it. When we brought the chow mein up to the waitress she said the wonton chips were the noodles. When we brought it up with the young man at checkout he called up the manager and she explained to us that everyone makes it differently and that’s how we do it here. I have never had a chow mein that didn’t have actual noodles. She made no effort to accommodate us for the failure to meet expectations. Her comment was unecessary, her hospitality was lacking, and we paid for a meal that was not eaten.
