Perhaps we went on a bad day for when shops are actually open at this mall. It seemed like a ghost town. My partner and I showed up at the main entrance and saw a huge: For Lease sign on the front. We weren't sure if it was open or not. It looks like it used to be a thriving mall back in its heyday with three large floors, a foodcourt and an elevator in its center. I'd say there were maybe 10-15 shops that were possibly still up and running. I'd say maybe 5 of those were closed. Kiosks for directions were inoperable, the furniture looked dirty and I saw some flying insects as we drew closer to the food court. I think there were a couple of restaurants open, although I didn't see any workers. However, there were people eating in the food court. Highlights of the mall were Tradehome Shoes, Dick's Sporting Goods, an indoor skate park, and this cute little tea place that's hopefully still in business. We went on a Monday, so possibly they are mostly open closer to the end of the week. It's sad to see what used to probably be an epicenter for business fall to the wayside. Points to the graphic designer who designed the mall's website. I had no expectations and left with less expectations. I don't see a point in returning.
Photos will be attached soon, as they have not yet transferred to...
Read moreThis used to be my go to Mall. When I moved here as a kid in the 90s it had a ton of awesome stores, over the years obviously things have changed a lot. Businesses go out of business, (sadly looking at you Suncoast Motion Picture Company). Of course the pandemic changed everything, and businesses suffered. The mall is looking like one of those Abandoned videos you watch on YouTube. Don't even ask if their are any autonomous venues for midmall snacking as auntie Anne's is gone, Mrs fields is gone, and the entire food court has next to nothing. The latest victim that moved to a new mall was f.y.e., now permaclosed and just really helps to enhance that ghost town feeling throughout the mall. I have no idea what the plan is for the mall, it really makes me sad to see a place I enjoyed so many years in, to just fall apart, literally and actually. As it appears 80% of the maintenance is no longer performed either. In any case, if their is a store left inside that you are already going to, at least you'll know what to expect. However, as far as a place for some long term mall cruising, this...
Read moreI can echo what a lot of other reviews seem to be saying. There are many closed store fronts. There were a few nice little pop-up shops, but it's a sad shell of the store it used to be in its glory days.
The gigantic, awesome arcade has been replaced by a small area that can only fit about four machines. The food court only has about four eateries, but the food smelled decent, at least. The stores that are currently open have all seen better days.
I truly wish that some company could sweep in, buy out the mall, and do something great with it again. I've heard that they want to turn some stores into condos, but who knows if that will go through.
Part of me wishes it could be a shelter for the homeless in the area where they would have a warm place to live, but I'm not sure if Burnsville is well-equipt to deal with something of that magnitude.
This is all to say that the Burnsville Mall represents how online shopping and Amazon have negatively affected previously awesome shopping...
