Denault's Ace Hardware — Local services in Carlsbad

This review is a condensed synopsis of my experience. And I want to make it very clear that my dissatisfaction is because of the attitude of the woman at the register and the store's return policy. I attempted to return a faucet cartridge puller that failed because part of it was made of plastic and had sheered off at it's end. They refused to accept it because I damaged it by cranking it too tight. A male employee said it was "FRAGILE" I don't need fragile plastic tools. I need tools that do the job. I purchased an all metal cartridge puller at Home Depot that got the job done. I asked them once again to refund my money for this substandard part and they again refused. I then told the woman that they had lost a customer. Her reply was, "Well, that's okay" I make no apologies that I turned around and told her "You will not get anywhere with a smart-ass attitude like that. My additional message to De Naults True Value Hardware #8 is that if you can't compete with Home Depot's return policy, than your days to remain in business...

My husband was putting together a new outdoor patio heater and realized we were missing the M6 nuts. We had common company coming to stay with us within a few hours!

He ran to Home Depot and they were out of them. I called this Ace hardware store and talked to Stephen. He assured me that they had the ones I needed in stainless so they would not rust. I drove through Friday traffic to get there and met Stephen at the store - he tried each one out with the screw I brought to make sure each one from that drawer fit(!) so I would have no surprises when I got home. How thoughtful!

Five stars not enough to describe my experience! If you want expert help with a project, this is the place to go. Stephen made my life simpler and solved my problem with a smile on his face. The other staff I met at the store were also very customer-focused. I honestly almost never get exemplary customer service anymore but I know I will make the drive back here because I greatly appreciated how valued I was made to feel! Stellar experience....

I have been into this store several times because it is very convenient to my home and I prefer to handle small home repairs on my own instead of paying people to do it for me. I am a 27 year old woman and I am able and willing to do the research and ask for advice from the "knowledgeable" employees. I am very handy and have been able to handle every new task I have attempted on my own.

Today I went into this store to ask for assistance on a toilet issue and an unusual sound coming from the tank consistently. I suspected it was and issue with the flapper and simply asked if fixing this problem would be do-able by following the instructions. I was told that it would be best for a man to do it. I will never be spending money at this store again and I highly recommend retraining for employees so that when a woman enters the store to attempt a do-it-yourself repair, do not tell her she needs a man to take care of it. I have never felt so...
