My girlfriend and I checked this place out today. The selection is huge, and the staff was knowledgeable. I asked one of them about a particular craft beer from California and he knew just what I was talking about. They were currently out, so we decided to come back later. As we were about to leave, a staff member rushed up to us and flagged down another staff member. They asked for our IDs. I told them we weren't buying anything, but took out my wallet anyway. They pointed to two Asian girls waiting in line and repeatedly asked if we had come with them. We told them we hadn't, and they wouldn't believe us. They started to get louder and told us it was their policy to "card everyone in a group" although we were just trying to leave and were the only ones being interrogated. People were beginning to look at this point. This was embarrassing, but we're not the type of people to make a scene. After they checked my ID, I grabbed it from them and began to leave, and they demanded to see my girlfriend's as well. Luckily she had it on her, and showed them. They asked AGAIN if we had come in with the group of Asian girls. I AGAIN told them no, I had never seen them in my life, and they seemed to be international students. The man turned to the woman and said "Is she under?" The woman said "No" and they both looked kind of dejected, realizing that they we were legitimate customers and haven't been under the drinking age for a umber of years. It started as a pleasant experience and turned into a rather uncomfortable one. The whole time I just kept thinking "this is how you lose customers." And although I don't know any other place that sells all of the IPAs I drink in Champaign, I can tell you that I'll never go...
Read moreordered curbside pickup for the first time due to my foot being broken, and in an ankle boot. it took 35 minutes for them to walk a 5th of rye and a 12 pack to my car. 35 minutes! that takes me about 2 minutes. the manager came out to my car to tell me that my "order" isn't ready yet, and to be patient.... why didn't you just bring the beer instead of telling me to be patient? why are multiple employees involved in multiple trips to my car? as if it's a pizza that's still in the oven lol. all you have to do is walk beer from one side of the store, to the other. i ended up walking into the store on my bad foot to ask whats going on. so thanks for that. i think you guys are making curbside pickup significantly more complicated than it has to be. also there were about 10 employees inside the store, and like 3 customers. i think one of the 7 spare employees could have done that in less than 35min, so don't act like it was an under staffing problem. absolutely ridiculous. if you happen to be injured, just skip binnys and go somewhere else. they have some serious organization problems right now and don't know what they're doing. also the BEER IS WARM even tho they have Sierra Nevada refrigerated. i guess they thought that would be funny. very...
Read moreHonestly at every other Binny's location I've been to I have had a great experience and was treated well by the staff. They were attentive and answered any and all questions I had and the selection is always great. Unfortunately, at this location I am unable to say the same. I visited today to purchase a bottle of Bourbon that I know that was in stock, but was something that you had to ask for as it was not displayed on the shelves. I approached the nearest associate that I could find and asked if they had any of what I was searching for in stock. As he started to help me, the manager yelled "No, we don't have any!" and shook his head at the employee I was speaking to. Ordinarily, I would have no problem with being told something was out of stock, as long as I am told politely. I even understand if I am told that something considered "rare" is being saved for more valuable customers that shop at the location regularly. But from the manager's reaction, I could tell that he just didn't want to sell this particular bottle to me, because I am on the younger side of "Bourbon Enthusiasts." There was just a better way to handle this situation, especially...
