Ethan Lord Jewelers — Local services in Chicago

Earlier this year, I started to look into rings and planning my proposal. On a small budget and knowing very little about rings or diamonds; I had only time and a desire to learn! I visited 6-8 of the big name jewelry stores downtown and in the suburbs, and learned ID the characteristics of a diamond. While each stone is unique, you'll find that most places have similar ring designs and exceptionally similar stones. For me, this put slightly higher value on finding good price.

At that point, I decided to check online diamonds as well and visit a local jeweler, and I'm so happy that i did! Ethan Lord's prices were on par for the online prices; both of which are 50-80% cheaper than most of the other places i visited. It made me so thankful that I didn't spend wayyy too much at one of the bigger stores. More so, their customer service was calm, friendly, not-pushy in any way, and cooperative (as if we were teammates looking together to locate the perfect ring)! I felt much more secure than purchasing online, and would receive free servicing whenever we needed.

After a series of events, I was pushed to a sudden tight deadline (moving to a new city in a couple days). Eric was amazing in helping me find a gorgeous diamond that, while not necessarily the biggest, was truly unique and something that my now-fiancee would truly love! He put it in the perfect setting and I was able to discreetly sneak away to pick it up while she was shopping nearby, and I became engage the following morning! At Ethan Lord's, I feel like I designed the perfect ring, saved money (actually stayed on the low end of my intended budget), and made a few new friends! I look forward to visiting them again in future years for...

We can’t say enough good things about working with Danny at Ethan Lord. Finding a jeweler was perhaps the one vendor selection that my husband and I were most unsure about. We hardly know anything about pricing, quality, and most of what would go towards making an informed decision. So, when we started looking for a jeweler whom we could trust to work with us to help realize or vision and our budget, we were concerned.

We pretty much knew that we had found our guy after our initial consultation with Danny. For my ring, we were looking for a band that would work well with something very specific: my great grandmother’s wedding ring that I wore as my engagement ring. One of the things that immediately impressed us with Danny was how excited he got at the project and how much respect he had for the original ring. We walked away from that meeting feeling like we’d be working with an artist (and on who was committed to helping us stay within our budget as well!).

Artistry is what Danny delivered. The custom band he designed based off of my ring is extraordinary—a perfect match for my engagement ring. Even though we were working with a quick turnaround, Danny made sure that absolutely nothing was compromised because of speed. I felt included in all stages of the design process, which really put my mind at ease, and my confidence and trust in Danny’s skill was well placed! This was on display when Danny worked with my husband on designing custom cufflinks as well. It was a last-minute idea that my husband had, but Danny was able to work closely with him to turn that vision into a reality and pieces that my husband treasures.

Booked an appointment through a rep to take a look at diamonds for an engagement ring. Was contacted by one of their sales individuals who asked my partner and I to state the diamond colors/shapes she would like to look at since they wanted to get the diamonds that “fit exactly what you’re looking for”. We let them know and instead of getting the diamonds my partner wanted, we were informed a day before our appointment that they weren’t able to get ANY of the diamonds she requested. They proceeded to ask if she’d be open to “expanding on shape or size of the diamond.” We ended up cancelling our appointment (which we had prioritized over other places) since they didn’t have the requested diamonds to look at and stated that “The color and shapes mentioned are the only ones she's interested in looking at. If any diamonds happen to become available for viewing please let us know and we can go from there.” We have not heard back from them since and are not even sure they were even trying to get the diamonds we requested. If the requested diamonds can’t be procured then say so instead of trying to change things last minute to view something that wasn’t asked for. The week before the appointment I also had to follow up more than once to get a response from them… the whole experience was a waste of our time for something so important.

Sad part is this store was my partners 1st choice to view and potentially work with. She definitely won’t be recommending them to any of her...
