This bridge must be avoided at all costs anywhere from 3 p.m. to around 6 or 7 p.m. Traffic is terrible during these times with 30 minute plus delays or more. This area is also prone to lots of wrecks/crashes. Please see detours below:

Inbound: Exit 188 to Dixie Hwy (North). Use all the way to Pike Street. Follow Pike Street to the Marathon gas station and take a left onto Main Street then cross the Clay Way Bailey Bridge into Cincinnati.

Inbound (If traffic is even worse): Exit 185 to I-275 East. Exit 83 to Dixie Hwy (North). Turns into Pike Street. Follow Pike to the Marathon Gas Station then take a left onto Main Street. Then straight onto the Clay Way Bailey Bridge into Cincinnati.

Alternate Inbound Detour: Via exit 185, take I-275 East, then take exit 74(B) to I-471 North. You can then use exit 6A for 3rd street, or exit 6B forth 6th street in downtown Cincinnati.

Outbound: Via 3rd street in Cincinnati, left onto Clay Way Bailey Bridge, and straight onto Main Street. Follow to dead end then right onto Pike Street (turns into Dixie Hwy). Left onto Kyles Lane, then right back onto 71/75 south.

Outbound (If traffic is even worse): Same as above, but keep going and then hop onto I-275 East. Then left back onto 71/75 South.

Alternative Outbound Detour: Via 5th Street in Cincinnati, go onto I-471 South. Then exit 1B to I-275 west. Finally then take exit 84 back onto 71/75 south.

IF DIXIE HWY IS BACKED UP: Use Clay Way Bailey Bridge, straight on Main, then left onto 5th Street at the next light. Then right onto Madison Avenue. Follow Madison all the way to Fort Wright and the enter I-275 West. Then exit 84 onto 71/75 south.

Wreck/Crash near or on bridge (If going outbound): Via third street in Cincinnati, left onto the Clay Way Bailey Bridge. Then right on 4th street. Then take 71/75 south exit on the left.

If a wreck/crash is further south at the bend, follow same instructions above but take a right at the fork on the exit that says 12th street/Covington. Straight across Bullock Street, stay in middle lane, then hop back onto 71/75 south.

If the wreck is any further south, use Dixie Hwy, then left onto Kyles Lane, then right back onto...

Please google this bridge before crossing it! It carries TWICE the amount of cars it is supposed to every day. The bridge is old, rickety, and known as a falling hazard by locals. Many have even had pieces of the bridge fall onto their cars! it is very dangerous. It always made me nervous any time I had to cross it. And don't think for one second the city wouldn't be so irresponsible as to leave up a collapsing bridge... 2 years ago an overpass (that had been reported by locals several times) that was collapsing slowly finally crumbled in the morning and killed a man and injured others. Another bridge in Cincinnati is collapsing and even though it's making rounds on social media and has been reported to the proper authorities, nothing is being done about that either. Just stay away from...

When you commute from south to north on this bridge, and every day you stare up at the rusty and corroded beams that keep the upper deck from collapsing onto you and the rest of the northbound (lower) deck, and as you and dozens of tractor trailers slowly creep across the bridge, you consciously or subconsciously develop a plan of action for what you would do if and when those dying steel beams finally give way. But eventually you reach the other side and continue your commute to work, and having stared death in the face, now all subsequent problems, be they work related or otherwise, seem so small and manageable...

I was going southbound from Ohio into Kentucky and got to cross the Ohio River on this interesting bridge that was built in 1963. It carries I-71 and I-75. The bridge is a double decker with southbound traffic on the upper deck and northbound traffic on the lower deck. Four lanes in each direction with no breakdown lane or pedestrian lane. The traffic was light so I was able to blindly snap a few pictures that turned out okay. There is no toll to cross the bridge.

Wow. 😳 Going across this bridge was a truly incredible experience. I definitely would drive over the bridge again. I love the variety of different bridges that you can choose but personally for me this is the best one. The view is nice. I dunno for me it's just like driving on it. That's the best part.

PLEASE build a new bridge... This thing is a death trap. I lived down the road from the 35W bridge when I collapsed in Minnesota, all people talk about is how old and unsafe this thing is. Can't wait to see it gone.
