The Fortress Golf Course — Local services in City of Frankenmuth

The course was in over all good condition. The greens were a bit firm but manageable. The only issue I had. I played as a single and was paired with a couple fairly new to the game. Maybe not the course for them but they knew their boundaries. The husband played good enough and the wife would hit a shot but then drop by her husband to keep the game moving. There were some holes where they struggled but we always had eyes on the foursome in front of us. Some holes waiting for them to clear the fairway or green but about the 5th hole, the starter came by to tell us WE are holding everyone up. I'm an 8 hdcp and I didn't feel I was being held up. If anything, the group in front of us were as on almost every hole, we had to wait. Mind you, not long but we were being told to speed it up, never once did he even approach the group in front of us. In fact, his 1st appearance, we were leaving the green and had to wait to tee off. He drove by a few times, always with something to say. When we made the turn, the wife of the guy decided to just stop playing because she felt it was her fault. After teeing off the 10th tee, here comes the starter who sees it's just me and the guy playing and says "hopefully you guys can move quicker that it's just the two of you". Mind you, she's still sitting in the cart and the foursome in front of us is not even to the green. We had to wait again. I have to say, the start of the experience at the fortress was very pleasant but this interaction ruined me trip. I drove 2 hrs just to play the fortress for the first time with 2hr drive back and this was what I dealt with. I can't say I'd want to play there again. $95 to have my round ruined, I felt worse for the couple, especially his wife. They went from excited to feeling bad and they weren't even that slow. I should have gone straight to the pro shop but I didn't, I left after the round. Now, a couple of days later, it's still on my mind so I needed to say something. Every aspect of this course is great. The carts are clean, have gps, and run great. The pro shop and food staff were extremely helpful and polite. The course conditions were superb. The reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was solely because of an interaction I had with an employee on the course. While my group was teeing off on hole 8, an older gentleman came up to our group and accosted us for not fixing our ball marks on the greens, saying how he fixed four of them on hole 7 (no one in our group even hit the green on the last hole). We assumed that this was just another golfer, but he then told us his name was Joe and we had to listen to him because “he’s worked as a ranger here for years.” After this, he told us that he was playing through and didn’t give us a choice. This was midway through our tee shots, as two of us had already hit our drives, and the other two had to wait until Joe played through, which was much longer than expected . The worst part about this was that it was a slower day on the course, and we had been waiting too. It didn’t help that he was playing as a single as well. We played this course on Thursday, August 19th. Now, don't get em wrong, this is a great course and our group have nothing but praise for the couse conditions and lay-out and would highly recommend playing it to anyone. However, there is currently some construction going on that has closed the main road leading to the clubhouse. The problem is thay didn't mention this when we called to book our tee-time and worse yet when we arrive and pulled down the road to gain access there were no signs showing where the new entrance was. Little did we know there was a back entrance that was available because there weren't any signs re-directing you. One of our group drove around for 25 minutes trying to find an entrance before finnally giving up and driving across the back lawn of a nearby appartment complex that bvacked up to their parking lot. Terrible customer service!! I would highly recommend they immediately go to a one-hour sign company and put up some directional signage to help...
