Airport — Local services in College Park

I have ridden Marta many times before from Indian Creek to the old Ga. Dome. I decided that I was going to take a Megabus trip recently, so I parked my vehicle at airport parking and used the rail system to the Civic ctr. station. Something needs to be done about the vagrants who bypass paying to ride by rushing through behind the paying customers and the homeless and obviously people with mental disorders. One man got on the train at the airport in 30 something degree weather with what appeared to be some cutoff sweatpants that had a very large wet stain in the rear. There needs to be more of a police presence because I don't think anyone feels safe. And for those of us who do not navigate the system regularly more signage for directions is needed. I had to pay for a fare twice because I entered the wrong side of the rail and the Breeze card only allows you to use it twice on a one-way fare, once to enter and once to exit. I and at least two others whose bus arrived late (after10:30pm) on 1/15 had to by the $2.50 one way ticket and an additional $1 for the pass. One fellow was asking other passengers how to catch a specific number bus because there are no clear directions and if you mistakenly enter the wrong side of the terminal you are forced to go to street level and cross the street and pay a second time if you find out once you get to the loading platform. Oh yeah that was a guy on a green bicycle who stopped at the top of the Civic center south entrance and urinated for all to see, there's no fear because there is no consequence. I used to want Marta to expand to my neighborhood but after my latest experience, KEEP MARTA OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I want even discuss the loud music one fellow graced us with. It is very easy to find and take the Marta train from the Atlanta airport (ATL) once the airport layout is understood.

The airport has six Concourses (A to F), all on the eastern side of the complex, which contains gates for the planes, and one Main Concourse T, which is located on the western side of the complex. The Marta train station at the airport is inside the same complex, but located at the western-most edge of Concourse T.

There are at least two ways to get to the Marta rail station: (a) From any of the A to F gates, walk west towards Concourse T, exit the security area, and keep walking until you see the station; (b) From any of the A to F gates, look for the automated "plane train". You may need to go down one level to find it. Take the "plane train" that is heading west (going from F to A) towards Concourse T. However, do not get off at Concourse T itself, but only get off at the last stop marked "Ground Transportation". After exiting the security area, follow the signs to the Marta station (see photos).

There are various options to pay for the fare (there are ticket vending machines in the station), but if you have a smart phone, the easiest way is to download the free Marta's Breeze Mobile 2 app, and load the app with money via your credit card. At the station entrance, you can scan your app's QR code to pay the fare. You scan the same QR code to exit at your destination station. The app is free unlike the physical ticket or card that have a one-time surcharge fee to buy them.

All trains (both Red and Gold) from the Marta Airport station only run to the north as this station is the last one on the line. There is free WiFi in the station and...

Station is under construction and honestly needs a revamp. Really nothing to distinguish it as part of an ATL transit system or grand welcome to visitors to ATL. First time riding MARTA but not my first time in ATL. Only one train every 20-25 minutes (although MARTA ridership is not enough to fill another train). Tickets are relatively cheap and ticket vendor machines are easy to figure out as well. Major gripe was the information desk on the platform. The employees were using the megaphone to “joke” with people waiting on the platform. I had to move to the other side of the platform as the speaker was extremely loud and their jokes felt more like harassment if you aren’t in the mood to joke around with them about your appearance. Station is also not the cleanest so instead of having 3-4 people in the information booth maybe MARTA could have 2 of them clean instead, as they had more than enough free time to attempt their comedy show.
