Consistency of flavor: 1 star. I think they have different cooks, because the same dish tastes different and is done differently each time. The shrimp fried rice sometimes has lots of veggies and shrimp, other times it only has a few veggies and shrimp. It can taste flavorful at times, and at other times, it has no flavor. I used to think the nighttime cooks needed help, but I got this meal, and others during the day. So consistency is a problem.
Friendliness of delivery person: 1 star. Everyone has been nice. However, the last meal I got, the young girl was not friendly at all. I came out to give her money, and she didnt speak to me, barely looked at me, and just did not seem as if she wanted to deliver the food. Also, the food was cold.
Accuracy of order: 5 stars. They get it right.
Friendliness of staff, other than delivery personnell: 5 stars. Everone except the delivery girl was nice. In fact, I used to tell people all the time that the people who work here are nice.
Portion size: 5 stars
Review of individual dishes: Chicken noodle soup: 1 star
Shrimp fried rice: it varies. The last time I had it, it was awful. Other times it was good. So anywhere from 5 stars to 1 star, it just depends on who is cooking.
Chicken on a stick: 5 stars
Chicken wings: no flavor when I ordered them. Just fried chicken......no ginger at all. I did not order them again. 1 star.
Give them a try if you like. I think Im done secondary to the last experience with the delivery girl, and the lack of consistency with the food. Both of those kind of ruined it for me. Its a shame because they advertise that theu dont use MSG, and I like that. Also, like I said, people were...
Read moreMost of the times I've been here it's been somewhat empty and I can't understand why! I guess I just eat at weird times. Every staff member is always really friendly (especially a younger lady I see at the counter often and an older lady who served my drink the last time I was there) and serve you well. The portion sizes are really generous---if you order more than one dish, even in a "small" size (a pint), than prepare to have leftovers!---and the prices are really great. The menu is super diverse, with more typical options like orange chicken, beef and broccoli, etc., and traditional Chinese dishes like chow mee fun. Almost all of the dishes have been really great, and I've never had anything here that wasn't at least good. I've been here several times with friends and family and none of them have ever had any complaints. I've seen some other reviewers complain about the delivery. I can't speak to that, since I never really order anything for delivery, but if the staff in-store are anything to go off, I'd take that with a grain of salt. Some reviewers have also complained about burnt food or portions with too many veggies, but I've never known anyone who had burnt food here and I've never had any complaints about the veggies---any "overload" of veggies compared to meat is mild if it exists at all. I recommend anyone who wants cheap, great, authentic Chinese food to try this place out. My advice: try something new from the menu here and you may well find a new favourite dish! I plan to...
Read moreI've had my fair share of Americanized Chinese food across the Midwest, and I can't say that I've ever been particularly impressed...until coming to Taste Place. I stopped by with a friend for an early Saturday dinner, and we were seated immediately, with our steaming plates of wonderful food arriving shortly after. My friend got their sesame chicken dinner combo, which she said was perfectly seasoned and had just the right levels of crispiness and crunch. She subbed out the eggroll that comes with the combo for their hot and sour soup, which she greatly enjoyed along with the fried rice. I went for one of their "special diet" menu items (which I appreciated that they had), and it was pretty standard -- steamed tofu with a heaping helping of vegetables, as well as what seemed like a giant bowl of oyster sauce on the side. The true star of the night, though, was their sesame balls. I'm usually really picky with sesame balls, but they did a phenomenal job at this place. Fried to perfection, but not overly greasy, with the perfect level of crispiness and minimal sweetness. Also, at $6.99 for 10, the price is really unbeatable. I definitely wasn't expecting to get dim sum-quality sesame balls at the Columbia Mall, but Taste Place really did...
