After reading all the great reviews online I decided this was the store for me. To be fair, they don't advertise that they work with gemstones but I didn't know that when I walked in the store. I asked if they evaluated them at that point and the jeweler told me yes. I saw at least 4-5 rings with gemstones so I chose to wait and speak with him about mine. I patiently waited 35 minutes for him to help me. He was helping an elderly woman decide what to do with her wedding ring because she was moving into a nursing home and had no one to pass it on to. She was struggling and since it was such an important decision I heard a long part of the conversation. He gave her a few choices but I could tell she was overwhelmed. She needed slow, gentle guidance as this ring meant she was now a widow and was moving on. She did finally decide but I wanted to pull her aside and tell her to get a second opinion. When the owner was done he asked how he could help me. I had several gemstones lying on the counter and asked if he could look at them and tell me what they were and if he could give me a rough appraisal of them. He told me up front that the cost would be between $20-$50 for his time. He looked at the 10 gemstones, told me most of them were of no value and that many were cracked. He told me he doesn't buy gemstones and no one else will either. He charged me $20. His attitude toward me was curt and discourteous. He may have had a bad day that day, I don't know, all I can say is I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Owner of the store contacted me. He explained to me why the ring had a mark on the back and offered to fix it with rhodium plating. (I didn’t pay for the rhodium plating with the sizing. If I would have the mark wouldn’t be on the ring) He apologized for any misunderstanding. I am really impressed that they called me and wanted to fix my 3 star review. I haven’t gone back to get the ring fixed but I will in the future once time permits.

Price for repairs are decent/affordable. I resized one ring with white gold. I can see on the band where gold was added. It is kind of disappointing. I have had white gold rings resized before and I have never been able to see where the gold has been added. I will probably take it to a different jeweler to see if that can be fixed. I also had tips added on to a different diamond cluster ring and the tips are not alined. Now when I wear this ring I can’t help notice the tips don’t aline. Perhaps this is normal when tips are added I am not sure but it isn’t visually appealing.

One of the owners is always really friendly when you come in and seems really excited to be at work everyday. I have been in a few times to ask questions and he seems incredibly knowledgeable. He is the main reason I have been a returning customer to Johantgen Jewelers.

Brought in my Citizen Capri watch for repair to Johantgen Jewelers in Crystal, MN. It had stopped working and I had replaced the battery. In the process the hands had fallen off. My fault. I dropped the watch off with the instructions to reattach the hands. A few days later when the watch was returned to me: One of the hands was completely missing. I was told the watch was no longer working. The dial number indicators at 1:00 🕐 and 3:00 🕒 were missing altogether! The stopwatch feature now zeroed to the 3:00 🕒 position rather than the 12:00 🕛 position. The second hand no longer ticked at the 7:00 through 12:00 second indicator marks on the dial. I returned the watch to Johantgen Jewelers and was told it would cost another $200 in addition to the $35 I had already spent for the original repair! The owner of Johantgen Jewelers is also the watch repair guy. He proceeded to try and lay all of the blame on me for the list of issues that he himself had caused. He became very upset and defensive when I stood my ground, and started yelling at me that it wasn’t his responsibility to correct the issues that arose while the watch was in his care.
