I was referred to this jeweler by a friend and initially felt confident after asking if two rings could be resized to a 6 and if a custom halo setting with six prongs—matching the original height—could be made for my pear-shaped diamond ring. I was told this was all possible and would take about three weeks. I dropped the rings off on 3/28/25
At the three-week mark, I tried calling to check on progress, but the voicemail said they were out sick. After that, their posted business hours changed without notice—sometimes they were open, other times not. I left voice messages but they never called back.
When I finally went in to pick up the ring, only one ring had been sized (the other had not), and while the new setting was pretty, it had just three prongs and was set higher than requested. Greg told me six prongs couldn’t be done on his custom halo design—but I was never consulted about this change. One of the prongs also had a jagged edge, which Greg fixed after I returned the ring. He also complained that he should have charged more for the work.
Once home, I noticed the main diamond was slanted to the left and some prongs weren’t touching the surrounding smaller stones, causing the ring to catch on clothing. I brought it back two days later on 4/25/25 and asked if the ring could be repaired to match my original request (as detailed in the envelope photo I provided). Greg agreed, saying it would take another three weeks.
Again, I received no updates, and when I called at the three-week point, I found out they were on vacation. I called again after the return date and the message said they were still away. No return calls to any messages. When I finally went in picked up the ring, I was shocked to receive it back in its original setting, along with a refund. Greg told me I was “asking for perfection” and that he couldn’t provide that.
What I asked for was not perfection, but craftsmanship—secure prongs, a centered diamond, and communication. Unfortunately, over nearly 10 weeks, I never received a single proactive call from Greg. The work was delayed, incomplete, and changed without consulting me.
To make matters worse, Greg spoke to me (and over me) in a raised voice in front of another customer, suggesting I was the problem for expecting quality work. This experience was unprofessional and disappointing. They do not follow posted business hours, do not ever communicate, and the owner does not take responsibility for the integrity of his work.
For these reasons, I’m leaving a one-star review...
Read moreSeveral years ago a girlfriend gave me a watch and a few months after that it quit running. I took it to a local watch repair and they told me that it was not the battery and was worth fixing so I stashed it in a drawer and forgot about it. Last week my watch, the one I wear all the time, needed a battery replaced and I decided to take in the broken watch to find out how much it would cost to replace the watch mechanism, keeping the band and the watch face. I had heard from a friend that Culver Center Jewelers was a great place to have watches repaired and for battery replacement and they were across the street from one of my favorite places, Best Buy. I was greeted by a very energetic, attractive and friendly woman named Victoria and she took my “regular watch” and had the technician/owner, Greg, replace the battery for a very small fee. While there, I asked if they could give me an estimate for the repairs to the other watch that was not working and I was expecting them to come back with a figure of $175 to $250 based on what the previous watch repair shop had indicated. Imagine my surprise when Greg stepped out from the back and told me that the watch only needed a battery replacement. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Had this been some other watch shop, or the first watch repair place, they could have charged me a substantial fee and I would have not known the difference. I was so happy that Greg was such an “Honest” craftsman and because of that I wanted to get the “word out” about his business; he has earned my business for life. Not only does he do watch repair but he is more well known for designing and repairing custom jewelry at extremely good prices and he does a beautiful job. As many of you know, I do not lightly recommend companies unless I have had personal experience with them. Therefore, I give my highest rating to Culver Center Jewelers, Victoria and Greg and assure you that you will have fantastic experience in dealing with them. I walked into their store just being some “guy off the street” and left feeling so elated, feeling like I had made some new friends that I would be dealing with for a long time. So happy that I walked into...
Read moreThis place is the best in town. I am in no way related to the owner or being paid to post this review. Greg is just so honest and does such great work that I had to come and write a review expressing my gratitude for everything that he did for me. The first time I came in, I had a ring which I was going to use as an engagement ring that I had to resize. I asked Greg to resize it for me to 5.5 and upon inspection Greg had told me that it was already 5.5 and didn't need to be resized. I asked him if he could verify the carat weight of the ring for me and he did so happily. So in the end of the first encounter, he spent his time with me advising me and didn't charge me a single cent. The second time I met with him, I had already proposed and definitely needed to get the ring resized to 6.5 according to the woman who was working at the counter since it was too tight. I paid for the labor to resize the ring which was incredibly reasonable and picked up the ring a week later. Greg did a great job and the ring fit wonderfully. I came in a third time because something on the ring needed adjustments/repairs and Greg did it for us free of charge. I was speechless as I thought it was going to cost a few hundred dollars more. Needless to say, I'm so thankful for his great work and trustworthiness. He's the only guy I'd go to for jewelry work on the west side. He's a...
