You get what you pay for - or don't. I'll start with that and explain that my wife and I got the 90-minute couples massage, with deep tissue and hot stone massage, as well as foot massage from Groupon.
My wife only wants a female to massage her, so the lady at the cashier had to step in to massage her, the swap from male to female was no issue, it happened seamlessly - 5 stars. What happened for her during the massage was less so. Her masseuse left five times in the middle of the massage to go get a tip, accept a phone call, and talk to the other staff. I know this because I opened my eyes to see my wife laying there with a towel over her eyes, alone. 4 stars... I feel the other staff should have been able to handle those transactions as well, seeing as how they only have her as a female masseuse. Her massage afterwards was described as: "Right in all the wrong places, it was a mix of Swedish and deep tissue, and I thought it would have been a choice of either or. It was really confusing." My wife injured her back waking up in bed that morning, but the massage didn't touch her pain. She managed to fall asleep for a minute during her massage, so that's a bonus to the relaxation. Still 4 stars.
My massage therapist was also right in the wrong places, thinking back on it. I walked in there without any body pain, and left with feeling like my upper back was sore, and my neck had pretty bad pain that I complained about how hard he squeezed my neck for the next hours. My calves didn't get massaged at all, just a literal rub up and down a couple times. I've never experienced pain so much afterwards from a massage, but during the experience I tried breathing and telling myself that they knew what they were doing and it might hurt now but I would feel better afterwards. Sadly I was wrong. I did also fall asleep at the end, before the foot massage, so that goes to show. My personal rating - 3 stars.
Upon going to check out after leaving, we realized that we forgot the cash at home. And that sucked because we would have given a better tip. The female masseuse gave me a punch card to come back 5 times with both of us and get a free foot massage, and asked us for $20 tip for each person. Now I read a review that was bad saying they were harassed for a tip at the end, but wanted to see for myself. It was correct. When we told her that the only card we could use, only had $10 on it, she actually got super pissed. Saying "90 minute massage is so hard, SO TIRED." I just stood there with my mouth open thinking to myself, "I've worked hospitality for seven years, and never once did I expect, let alone demand a tip. It was always appreciated but never expected." SO upon her charging the only $10 we had available to give as a tip, which I felt terrible for, and actually said we will come back for another massage with cash to pay back for this massage too, she scoffed, shook her head aggressively, and then TOOK the punch card from me and RIPPED it up in front of me.
It was at this point I made up my mind to write this review, and let it be known that the negative reviews are accurate, and the experience could have easily been 3 to 5 stars, had some simple things in my mind been handled more appropriately.
We will be going elsewhere to experience other locations for massages and...
Read moreI've been going to this place for 6 years. Last two years twice a month on average. I had massages all around the world and this is probably one of the best if not the best THERAPUTICAL/pressure point massage place - completely different category from relaxation massages. Very important to know for anyone who wants to go there. As an athlete I go there to fix myself not for fun. Now I have specific guy I go to. He is phenomenal. Everybody else there( I had at least 10 different people throughout the years) was very good ,good and maybe I had one "ok" guy.
If I don't go there for over a month( usually while traveling) I feel a huge difference and just can't wait to see my guy. It drives me nuts when I read some of these comments/opinions by these entitled new generation expecting Ritz-Carlton serivce quality while they are paying $40/hour. And yes the masseur might insist on the tip- without them these people literally would not survive. If you go to a bar and don't leave the tip bartender will make sure you get punished next time ordering drink( I was bartendering for 20 years). You have to tip minimum a dollar for someone opening beer for you but can't tip minimum $5 for an hour of hard work ?! Tip is built into ridiculously low price, so if don't want to tip please...
Read moreI have been going to Happy Feet Culver City for 7 years now and I have to say I’m highly disappointed in what this place has become. The person who massaged me was the same person answering the phone, answering the door, chatting with colleagues and billing customers - I had made an appointment for this massage but it didn’t matter, my session was interrupted the whole time. I understand it’s a cheap massage spot but it’s not free. Avoid her at all cost! They now have a piece of paper where you can mark what parts on your body you need work on and what kind of pressure you would like, don’t waste your time, they’ll massage what they want and as hard as they want to. I was burned with the stones today, I said “you’re burning me” and she proceeded to add pressure with the same burning rocks! I told her she was burning me, I also said she was hurting me and that my neck and shoulders had had enough, she smiled said “too much work?” Turned me around and proceeded to poke and pinch the area. I had to get up in the middle of my massage I just couldn’t take it anymore. This was probably my last visit here. There are other good massage therapist here unfortunately they were all busy...
