Can’t give zero stars so here it is. A completely scummy dealership that uses every tactic in the book to bilk their customers out of money. They start with the whole “Marhofer way” speech where they don’t negotiate and their sales people aren’t paid on commissions. All sounds great. And on paper, the price they were posting for the car was very good. I was buying a used Ioniq 5. There was one problem with it. The previous owner had not turned in the charging cord. Before driving out to the dealership that is an hour from me, I was assured that they would get the cord from the previous owner. No big deal. A huge dealership like this surely can acquire a stock cord for not that much off their bottom line when I’m buying a nearly $30k car.
this is when the games started. I told them I had financing from my personal credit union and what the rate was and they ensured me they could beat it. Rather than drive round trip two hours, I agreed to wait for them to get that taken care of. After three hours of waiting, being consistently reassured that they are getting some offer done, they eventually come to me with a deal that was fairly close to my credit union and I agreed let’s just do it. I believe I was quoted like 5.4% when mine could have been 4.99% with no fees or additional costs. At this point my ride and my wife had to leave to pick up my daughter from school and we’d assumed because I had been told so many times and now even agreed to a firm rate that I’d be driving home soon.
So after another hour, I was past to a different finance guy and some excuse keeps coming and now the rate is 5.99 and of course the APR is closer to 6.5% and they’re like it’s only like $8/month more on the payment. Yah dude over 60 payments that’s $500 over the course of the loan. If you wouldn’t have mislead and lied to me for the past four hours I’d have been back from my bank with a check by now. Nonetheless, I plan on paying this off early so I’m not super worried about it but it’s just obnoxious to be lied and mislead for hours and at this point my ride is gone so I’m sort of in a bad position. So I accept and move on. They try to sell you a few thousand dollars worth of bs. So after unchecking all the garbage, he leaves on some “fabric protection” garbage for $700 that I didn’t ask for, was never mentioned, is just a scummy tactic dealerships use. You said the car was “as is” and the price you advertise is the price you pay. More lies. Now I could have walked away but honestly with that extra cost, the car was still priced better than what I’ve seen elsewhere. I just wish they wouldn’t use these dirtbag tactics to get more money out of their customers. Nonetheless, I push on.
Now during my discussion with the finance guy on the as is/we owe page I brought up the missing charger and was assured that this being a “certified pre-owned” that it MUST come with all original equipment and that would include the charger. And when asked who to follow up with, they lead me to the sales associate I worked with. After signing, I followed up once again with my sales associate about the charger. It’s an electric car. I need to be able to charge it at home. This isn’t some sort of optional equipment. I was once again assured they would try and get it from the previous owner. When I asked what would happen if they could not, I was told they would order one and schedule a time for me to pick it up. He would follow up with me about it tomorrow. No surprise. He did not. So I text a couple days later to no response. My wife texts a few days later and gets a response of basically they are trying to get it from the previous owner. After more reach outs, we eventually land on them saying there’s nothing they can do. I’m sure they were just assuming we would give up at some point. So after breaking promises, lying, deceptive finance tactics, hidden charges, all I have is my voice. Terrible dealership. Avoid at all costs.
Also, I love the car. And I have had great experiences with Elyria Hyundai in the past. The...

I bought a 2015 Dodge Dart for my girlfriend on June 21st. AFTER ONLY 167 MILES, it was yesterday July 1st, the car will not even start. Battery is fine ignition just won't turn. I contact the salesman Jeremy, who was great to work with by the way, and unfortunately the 30 day warranty only covers engine and transmission, not electrical. Are you kidding me? A car lasts not even a month and they can't even make it right. The warranty would have only covered half of parts and labor anyway at what we all know is a very expensive dealer service center. Furthermore, yes, the other reviews are correct, they will attempt to upcharge all of their vehicles with a $695 fee under "accessories" for some type of protectant, which you can't even tell if it's there or not. It was until they thought they were going to lose the sale that they had mine removed from the bill. The experience inside is quite nice, they treat you good, offer you drinks, however the process is ridiculously slow. I bought my car cash but had to wait for them to process other car purchases first. Probably because they made more expensive or brand new vehicle purchases, and went through the financing process. I, however, waited nearly 3.5 hours just to swipe my card. I don't blame the salesman, but this dealer is just awful and seems to just prioritize selling as many cars as possible instead of taking care of the buyers. I just spent thousands on a car I bought entirely upfront and it didn't even last 200 miles, now I am footing the bill to get it running if I can. The other car I bought for myself the same weekend was from Statewide Auto in Akron, their reviews say it all for itself. They are a small dealer that treated me great, how can this mega-dealer Marhofer not own up for the poor products they offer?
UPDATE Today the Manager, Chris, called me about my review missing key points of information: It is important to note that the sale was "As Is" with no guarantee from the dealer for any repairs. This is true. However, as a buyer, we have a certain expectation even for used vehicles. A car that was functional for 167 miles is not satisfactory by even the lowest standards. They allow their customers to have cars inspected personally by mechanics of their choosing. He also clarified they have many qualified technicians doing very thorough inspections and they do not release vehicles knowingly with problems. To me, when you hear about a name like Marhofer, see their countless employees and their facility is the size of a small hospital... You tend to trust their products and what they send out. Do I NEED to take it to my own mechanic? I would expect to do so from a small lot dealer with ~10 cars, but not a place like this. He explained that the salesman was new, and there was miscommunication on how to remedy the issue. He then offered to have the car repaired in their service center and we can "split the bill", or I can return the car. I feel it is worth updating the review to clarify the exact terms of the sale and to add the efforts of their management to rectify the situation, albeit after they saw my review. I will be having a local mechanic tow and fix the car. My trust in their own service center is gone, and to return the car to risk the experience happening all over AGAIN with another car is just not worth it to me or my girlfriend. This post has been changed to a 3 star from 1 for the Manager actually engaging with the situation, offering solutions, and the new salesman actually being very helpful throughout the...
Read moreExtremely Disappointed with My Ioniq 5 Purchase Experience
I recently purchased an Ioniq 5 through Marhofer Cuyahoga Falls, and the experience was frustrating from start to finish. Despite completing everything promptly, I ran into repeated lack of communication, major shipping issues (including damage), and misrepresentation of optional services.
Poor Communication and Lost Sale I originally found the car I wanted and worked with a salesperson from the Green location. I quickly provided all required information and signed paperwork, but after multiple attempts to finalize the purchase with finance, communication stopped and the car was sold to someone else without notice. Leadership from the Green store eventually helped me find another vehicle at the Cuyahoga Falls location, but no apology, discount, or remedy was offered from Falls.
No Follow-Up After Payment After paying for the vehicle, I was told it would ship soon. Days went by without any update. My follow-up calls and messages to the sales manager went unanswered, and I had to contact the main line just to confirm my car was still available.
Shipping Problems I was told the car would be shipped in an enclosed carrier and that I’d receive advance notice. Instead, I received a last-minute call to meet the delivery immediately. The car arrived on an open-air carrier, not enclosed as promised. The driver spoke no English, making it impossible to ask questions or figure out what was going on.
Tag and Title Delays The car arrived with no license plates or temporary tags, even though I was told they’d be included. I had to follow up several times before temporary tags were finally emailed.
Misrepresented Add-On I explicitly declined the $695 paint and fabric protection, but was later told it had already been applied and couldn’t be removed. The contract clearly lists this product as optional, and the information I received about it was inconsistent and misleading.
Vehicle Damage on Arrival When inspecting the car, my wife and I found damage on the front driver’s side consistent with scraping or rock strikes. Photos and video evidence were shared with the dealership, and I was told the issue was sent to the appropriate team, but I have not received a response. I should note I paid the dealer for shipping ($2000) and they did not take any responsibility for the damage.
I made numerous attempts to reach out and seek remedy (respectfully) to my contacts and to the managers, but like my other communications they were completely ignored by Marhofer Cuyahoga Falls.
I have attached photos of the damage here as well as the contract that indicates the protection package is optional (and a text message from the finance manager saying it was not optional, which is not true).
Overall, my experience with Marhofer Cuyahoga Falls was extremely disappointing. The lack of communication, shipping issues, and misleading information made what should have been an exciting purchase unnecessarily stressful. My only assumption is that because my deal started with another location they were angry about issues related to commission, but that doesn't justify the treatment I have...
