If a negative number review was available, I would be using it.
January - Furniture identified, deposit made and hold placed on all items March - Request from Mark for sizeable payment to avoid other sales reps poaching our furniture that is already partially paid for Early April - Spent two weeks going back and forth with their Store Manager, GerriLynn, regarding the credit card payment (they wanted to refund due to the card being from out of state) and the credit card had already been paid off (and they wouldnât give me store credit or credit the card) Mid-April - They agree to keep the credit card payment because it has not been flagged during the two weeks of dispute as fraudulent Last week of April â Notified GerriLynn that the closing date has been pushed again by a week; final payment would be made next week (confirmed with Store Manager, all furniture is ready for delivery with final payment) Beginning of May - Arrive in store to pay balance and schedule delivery. Additional challenges with improperly trained staff resulted in my card being charged $200+ more than should have been AND OUR FURNITURE HAD BEEN SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE.
BOTTOMLINE: We jumped through requested hoops for 3+ months, only to have our furniture sold out from under us. In full disclosure, Star waived the delivery fee of $100 and advised the first piece could be delivered the following week, second piece could be delivered at the end of May and the last piece at the end of June. Mark was kind enough to meet me at their largest showroom in Katy to see if anything else was a good fit, and unfortunately nothing else worked. We received an additional $100 off for the inconvenience and moved forward with a guarantee that we would get everything as soon as it was available, with late June being the worst case scenario.
We've recommended solutions such as take from the show room floor only to be told that the "buyers" would not allow that because they would no longer be able to sell that piece of furniture. They don't have it in stock anyway so they shouldn't be selling it in the first place! Secondly, I shouldn't have to get a used piece of furniture because you, as vendor, cannot accurately iron out when product will be available. Third, you shouldn't take someone's money if you told them it was available and would be available once they close on their house.
As of June 1st: Two of three pieces have been delivered (as planned) with the third piece expected now in MID AUGUST. We received a call from Mark who said there was nothing he could do. The Store Manager was on vacation so we spoke with the Assistant Store Manager, Cindy, who was not interested in helping, as her hands were also tied.
So, here we are... 6+ weeks into full payment for a leather sectional sofa and reclining chair, with no end in sight as to when we will get the rest of what we already paid for. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM STAR.
Again, DO NOT PURCHASE FROM STAR. Their staff is poorly trained, makes false promises and are not given the power to (or in Cindy's case, the desire to) make a situation right for the customer.
Last note, we were waiting to do our reviews after all of the furniture has been received as we really wanted to give Star the benefit of the doubt and had faith they would "make it right." The push to August for delivery of items ordered in January was the last straw. Closing on a new home is stressful enough, not to mention lining up movers, appliances, changing addresses, etc.... what should be a joyous experience when furnishing and decorating your new home has become a horrible, anxiety driven blind date that just wont end.
REVISED FROM 5 STARS IN JANUARY: Our experience with Mark Hunt has been top-notch thus far. Heâs been helpful, informative and a great thought partner as we work to furnish...

Waiting on our furniture to arrive still, however the buying process with Yolanda was fantastic.
My only issue with Star Furniture is the false advertising about their memorial day sale.
Their signage and sales profess you get 25% plus an extra 5% off the price if you pay with cash.
What they don't tell you is that the 5 % is applies after the 25% so you really are only getting 28.750% not 30 as is implied.
Pretty shady marketing technique here. Only thing about the purchase that left a bad taste in my mouth and the only reason...
Read moreMy beautiful wife and I had been on an adventure looking for a couch for quite some time since moving as our prior one didn't fit. This lead to a month of casually visiting stores with no real rush to purchase anything. As you can expect, we were rushed to try and purchase things at about 80% of the stores. No worries, we expected it. We went from high end stores, to mom and pop shops, to your big warehouses... We finally ended up at Star Furniture for the first time just before they closed for the night. We were greeted right away with a smile by a gentleman named Mark and a joke, "don't take this increased 5% off as pressure, but an incentive." He then genuinely had laugh at my wife and I replying, "Oooooo the pressure is on!" He told us that he will leave us alone but if we need anything to come find him. He did just that to our surprise!
We walked around for about 30 minutes in all testing a couple things and then found a couch that gave us "fireworks" as we call it. Fireworks means we love it without compromise. A great tool my Nan taught me when I was young!
Mark swings by joking about he was truly leaving us alone, we shared some laughs about unwelcoming other sales tactics, and then we told him we were interested in this couch. He answered a couple of questions, didn't try to upsell us on anything, was informative, and was very honest with all the answers and opinions he provided.
Long story, but Star Furniture snagged a sale after hours because of my man Mark. They have a large selection of most everything you could imagine from style and shape to color. More importantly they have Mark. Go see Mark.
If you see this,...
