
In 1973 I went to Centre from New Orleans and graduated with a BA in English in 1977. True, Centre is not as well-known as it deserves to be, but people who are knowledgeable about small liberal arts colleges, usually know it and respect it. I have never felt that some potential employers' lack of knowledge about Centre has hurt my ability to get a job. While there are some drawbacks to a small college compared to larger schools, Centre's community is very special, and this sense of community continues on years after graduation among alumni. At Centre I felt appreciated for my individuality and recognized as a unique person. This was a gift to me. As both an alum and also a university teacher, I can attest to how well Centre is envisioned and managed by its board, president, staff, and faculty: its liberal arts mission, strategic planning, and implementation are seamlessly linked, producing an impressive unity of thought and action.
