Before beginning about this magnificent experience with Humphreys & Son, being young and open to learning new experiences and gaining useful knowledge for future use, I started out by looking in to a local Jeweler and Coin dealer. I found this dealer here on Google and am very stringent on who I take my business to based on reviews, word of mouth, and MOST importantly the experience at said place of business.
First and foremost, after doing extensive homework on all local dealers, I went ahead and visited Humphreys & Son. One pleasant thing is they are open on Saturday which is great for me because working M-F during the hours they are open is such a relief to go in and take my time to decide what I need to do. Let me say that walking right in, I was astound by the layout of the store, greeted promptly by employee(s) and was asked immediately what I was looking in to.
I then said what my interest was that day and one employee went to tell the owner of the store the interest I was there for. I was then greeted right away by Helen; super polite, firm, highly knowledgeable, and best of all is still in business since 1954! Talk about being established!
So, being new in to what I had interest in and having only basic knowledge, Helen made it a breeze in explaining more in depth about my interest in her store with background information on the current market on Jewelry, Coins, etc, and a history lesson on both the market and the store itself! What made this store the winner for me, being that I am stringent and picky on who I take my business to, was that Helen explained to me before discussing about the store and the market to not drop a dime in the store that day but to only be open to VERY informative knowledge. This should be the way for all business' in feeling comfortable and at ease about what said person has an interest(s) in instead of going to said business and feeling pressured to purchase said item(s). Hands down.
After said visit and life experience, I walked in previously with confidence yet accompanied with a predicament of interest in Jewelry and Coins and then walked out with much knowledge, comfort, and lastly a guaranteed repeat customer who will do business at Humphreys & Son. Lets face it and understand that times are tough, yet there are still honest and open people and business' out there. She wore it every day since receiving it. Iāve always admired how beautiful it was. Unfortunately, my father passed away earlier this year. He and my mom had been married for 64 years. My mom has been struggling with his death. A few months after his passing, she fell and broke her arm, but did not remove her ring. We went to the hospital for treatment and due to the significant amount of swelling, the ring had to be cut off. The band was broken during the process. This caused my mom even more grief. The ring sat for a couple months on my moms dresser. My moms birthday was approaching, so my two sisters, two brothers and I agreed to have it repaired, so I brought it to Humphreys & Son. I had purchased from them in the past and knew of their spectacular work on friends rings. They are an amazing jeweler, with great staff. I told them my story. Shawn went right to work repairing the band, cleaning the nooks and crannies and bringing the ring back to factory condition. When I presented it to my mom on her birthday, it looked shiny and brand new even though itās not. She cried and cried and was truly amazed at how beautiful it looked again. Immediately when I entered I was greeted with smiling faces and people who were actually happy to be working there, which was very different from my previous experiences. I could just feel the happiness in the room! One of the women took my ring to the back to have the master jeweler inspect it. Mr. Humphreys himself came out a few minutes later and personally spoke to me about my ring. He gave me advice that helped ME but not necessarily his business in any way, other than having a good name! He told me the truth, that I could make more selling outright than he could give for the ring because of it's unusual cut, and therefore, difficulty reselling the ring. He spent close to 30 minutes speaking with me and my boyfriend about the ring. We both felt so comfortable and trusting, and since then, Mr. Humphrey has continued to give me his advice and very educated opinions on my ring. He not only took the time to confirm all the dimensions and specifics of the GIA report, but made sure I understood everything as well. NO ONE else did this for my boyfriend and I! and at no cost to me whatsoever!
