The Dinner Detective — Local services in Dedham

The idea is good, but the execution was sorely lacking.

Took my husband to this as a birthday gift. The food was very average. It also took forever for the food to come out for some people. Over an hour after we had our entree, there were people at our table who were still waiting for theirs. We were told this was due to the kitchen being over booked.

The acting was very subpar except for one older lady who was great. The detectives kept trying to improv with the guests but we didn’t find them funny or entertaining. I had ordered the additional $20 suspect package thinking to make the night extra fun/special. When we arrived, the hosts had me send a photo of my husband to them so that we could use that suspect package. My husband got roped into the story line a bit more due to this but the actors didn’t seem to know what to do with his responses and we weren’t amused by the whole interaction.

The whole room was also pretty loud with everyone talking over the detectives, so it was hard to tell what was going on.

An additional thing that wasn’t clear to me when I signed us up was that we would be sitting at a big round table with strangers. It was fine and the people were lovely, but it wasn’t communicated beforehand.

We were definitely not the only ones who were disappointed - groups of people started leaving early and multiple people were angry/frustrated and were expressing this to the staff out loud.

This event was such a ripoff! Please don’t waste your time and money. First of all, the acting was amateur and boring! There was nothing amusing about it. You couldn’t even follow it because it was so confusing and lame. The actors were awful and totally uncaptivating. They had a young women come in and fall on the floor with a plastic knife in her side and the acting was atrocious! Kids could have acted better. To add to the misery, you had a choice of chicken or fish for dinner. The chicken came out and it was about 3 ounces, awful like it was microwaved. My husband got his chicken and then 30 minutes later my fish came out and it was just awful. Who serves half the dishes at a table and then 30 minutes later the rest of the plates?? A thin 3 inch fish tail, yes a fish tail!! Who serves fish tails for a fish dinner?? We didn’t eat the food, We were so upset we left during the show. Other people felt the same way and left....

We’ve been to a few dinner murder mystery shows and this one blew the rest out of the water! The storyline was well thought out and the actors were hilarious. My husband and I appreciated the structure of finding clues-other places have you walk around aimlessly talking to random people and actors which can be awkward, timely as you have to wait for other groups doing the same, and makes it hard to eat your dinner. Dinner Detective wove in the show with hilarious and frequent audience participation seamlessly from the comfort of your own table. The food at this location was tasty and the service was great. It was so much fun, we will definitely be back! Thanks Dinner...
