I don't usually write reviews; but feel obliged to do so in this case. I went to this restaurant at lunch time on a weekend with my daughter and from the moment we entered the establishment felt unwelcomed by the Asian staff at the reception area. There were two young adult females and an older female working the reception area, upon greeting us they began to speak amongst them in their language (Mandarin?) in a manner that any reasonable person would consider rude and offensive. It was evident that they were talking about us and that whatever was being said was humorous to them. I know that I’m an internet stranger and nothing about me or this post tells you that should believe me; but I’ll add this anyway, I’m not a sensitive person and do not get offended easily. We are also visibly of Hispanic origin. We proceeded to sit down in the table offered to us which was in complete isolation from the rest of the patrons, the male bartender came to take our order and explain how the restaurant works including the part about “paying for the food at the end”. Long story short, we finally left the restaurant without ordering as I was made to feel very uncomfortable by the continuing humorous discussion about us taking place between the male bartender and the three females in the...
Read more20-25 years as loyal patrons to Bamboo Dedham ruined today by their own staff at lunch. My family and friends have constantly supported Bamboo Dedham since the early 2000’s with large groups too and always generous tips. But today it changed with one waitress or 2 waitresses we’ve had before which surprised us was rude! From her rolling her eyes when I wasn’t ready when she was to order a drink to being told upon requesting our uneaten lunch packaged up to go, that my mother in her 90’s couldn’t take soup she wanted that I hadn’t finished that came with my with my combo lunch plate. The fact they wanted to charge extra for the soup was offensive. I told them please pack up the soup, I had to say I was taking it. Reluctantly May took it out back and her or someone ended up dumping out most of it and put what was left in a very small container usually seen for duck sauce with the other leftovers. There was almost a full bowl when she took it to the back. I complained to front staff and asked for management and told they where not available. Only place we’ve been gone for over 2 decades of loyalty for that treatment? As always this was intended as always as a treat. Very sad after decades of loyalty. Won’t be...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I were really looking forward to trying Bamboo in Dedham, but our experience was so uncomfortable we left before even ordering food.
When we walked in, all the staff were sitting down eating, which we don’t mind at all but the hostess greeted us with no smile and literally talked to us with a mouth full of food. It already felt off, but we gave it the benefit of the doubt.
Then our server never introduced herself, made zero effort to be welcoming, and just bluntly asked, “What do you want to drink?” No warmth, no vibe, just cold energy from the start. We felt so uncomfortable we decided not to stay.
When we told the server we just wanted to pay for our drinks and leave, she snatched the menus from our hands, slammed the check on the table, and then hovered over us like we were going to run out on a $3.75 bill. It was honestly disrespectful and made us feel so judged, discriminated, and unwelcome.
We’ve never been treated like this at a restaurant before. It wasn’t just poor service, it was a vibe that made us feel like we weren’t wanted there. I never leave reviews like this but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects even basic...
