We went to the 10am Mass on the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. It truly was a beautiful concert! Unfortunately, my daughter and I were seemingly the only ones singing in the pews, and I don’t blame them for not singing. There isn’t a cantor to lead them and the acclamations were performance pieces, meant to be listened to and not for congregational participation. The Kyrie and Gloria took a combined 20 minutes. Had I been attending a concert, it would have been fabulous. But, instead, we were at Mass standing while listening to professional musicians perform parts of the liturgy that were meant for our participation. Also, the liturgy was very disjointed, jumping from English to Latin in unexpected ways, it didn’t make any sense to me, as a liturgist. It wasn’t Extraordinary Form nor Novus Ordo, it was like a hodgepodge of the two liturgies. As a visitor, all would have been much better received if they had a worship aid for each weekend’s liturgy with hymns and expected responses (English and Latin) but when I requested an aid for what responses would be in Latin and English, I was only given a hymnal to use, no clue ahead of time which Eucharistic prayers would be used or which would be in Latin vs English. It was not a prayerful experience for us at all, as visitors. I love both forms of the Mass, and I am used to high Masses with beautiful hymnody, as I work for the Ordinary here in North America. But I feel this parish needs to reevaluate their Mass and pick which form they are going to do. And if it’s Novus Ordo, please allow congregational singing for the...
Read moreAs stated repeatedly a beautiful majestic church. There is a wonderful story behind this building that makes the experience more meaningful. A local guide wrote a book about this church which highlights the history but unique features that would easily go unnoticed. You will understand if you visit , it's so easy to just gaze in awe at its beauty . There are several service options including a Latin Mass. The choir is talented and an added plus to the service. The church has extensive outreach to the community including a sandwich program for persons experiencing homelessness. I actually learned of this church when I was studying religion at Red Rocks. Our teacher included a tour with the local guide I mentioned. This is now my church and a refuge when life is hard. Sharon from the Adm Office has been so helpful to setting up masses for loved ones. She also provided a card for the family with the date and time of the service. It's downtown but on Sunday there is plenty of free parking and the train comes to this area. Father Nguyen and the others make an effort to ensure all are welcomed. Really encourage you to check this out. It's a very...
Read moreIt's been almost ten years since I've had to utilize the wonderful services provided by the church but I was so glad there doors have remained open and I can't imagine the numerous countless souls they have helped over the years ..mostly to souls who take there kindness for granted or expect it from them that is where beauty in being Christian and God fearing is found. In helping those in need or less fortunate to make their day a little easier or better even as they slip from their faith in God in their tough times they ultimately can't ever forget the fact that righteousness and kindness and love towards others will undoubtedly prevail when its all said and done so haters stop hating cause you're on the losing team but have the grand opportunity of switching your hate to simply living and being happy the only thing that's in your way is you. Be good to one another and a million thanks to The Holy Ghost church nestled within the tallest buildings in this city. Humbling even at first glance. Jesus is Alive and...
