I have been going to Platform for over 4 years now. I drive all the way from Englewood because it truly is worth the drive and I have yet to see any closer gyms offer what Platform does. I've gotten immensely stronger than I ever would have if I worked out alone. It's 100% worth every penny. I know it isn't cheap but you'll never go back to a "big box" gym once you've experienced Platform.
My top 3 reasons that I'll be a forever member: The coaches. Coach Sav, Coach Mary, Coach George, and Coach April are top tier, high caliber coaches. I have been lifting for 6 years now and they still give me tips and tricks each class to help my lifts. They really know their stuff. Beyond their knowledge, each coach also creates a very welcoming environment whether you have been lifting for 10 years or 10 days. They are all very talented individuals and are the main reason I keep coming back. The classes are capped at 15 people so you really get very hands on coaching despite it being a class format. The programming. Coach George plans out each cycle meticulously to ensure we are maximizing the muscle gains. The programming is included in the membership and it's so nice never having to think about my workouts and knowing someone has put a lot of energy into the plan. He has it down to a science and I've seen major results because of it. The most recent 6 week cycle, I lost 5% body fat and gained 3lbs of muscle (tracked via the InBody machine that is free for members to use). Before Platform my deadlift PR was 185lbs and it is now at 295lbs. The numbers really speak for themselves. Lastly, but arguably most important, the community is what keeps me coming back. I love the class format and I love the friends I've made through the gym. There have been many times where I didn't have the motivation to go to the gym but the accountability of knowing a coach + my classmates are there waiting for me continues to get me out of bed and to the gym day after day. It's fun watching each other PR on lifts and seeing everyone cheer each other on. It's the best start to my day!
I could honestly go on and on about why you should join but take home message- if you are looking for a gym to get really strong at and grow really big muscles, this is the...
Read moreAmazing equipment at a small super convenient location. Received extreme passive aggressiveness from everyone I encountered. The coaches I interacted with seemed to have an automatic issue with me which was weird. I never disrespected any of the members nor coaches, never took up space, tried to clean after myself as much as possible and left people alone to enjoy their own workouts.
One of the coaches (George I believe is his name) gave me a weird backhanded, passive aggressive "compliment" about something "actually being impressive", I'm not even sure where all that came from. I turned around due to hearing someone screaming over my music assuming someone got hurt (I was doing pullups in the corner away from everyone, I don't excessively grunt nor am I loud while at the gym). Another, Coach Sav, made a really strange comment towards me that gave me weird racial vibes about how I "looked like some other guy" (I hate to jump to conclusions and assume it's about color but the whole interaction with her was odd).
Another weird experience was with a member who happened to be on the platform next to me while I was doing deadlifts. He decided to rudely interrupt my workout and condescendingly offered his "help" with loading my bar. He followed it up with a backhanded statement of "working smarter not harder" (trying to insinuate I'm stupid for just putting the plates on the bar). I've never talked to this man a day in my life and he rudely decided to insert himself into my workout and take away from my time. I didn't need or ask for help nor did I say anything to him that would provoke animosity towards me. I quickly grew tired of the consistent condescension from the staff and fellow members. I quit after a week to find a normal place to lift and enjoy my workouts.
Weirdest experience I've ever had at a public gym. It may be the environment for you, however for what I was looking for it just wasn't a great fit. It feels like if Mean Girls opened a gym, that's the vibe this...
Read moreFirst, I wanted to address Derek’s review below. I personally met Derek and had a few interactions with him so I can speak to our interactions and his experience a bit.
No one was ever being condescending towards Derek, it was all love. Derek is an amazing athlete and incredibly strong, we’ve never had anyone walk in off the streets, come in, casually do reps of 3 45# plates for weighted dips and pull ups. You can imagine how stunned we were, the compliments he received were genuine. I’m not trying take away from Derek’s experience but it sounds like he has a warped sense of how he views the world based on past events and traumas. It sucks he left, any gym is lucky to have such a strong and chill guy like him.
My personal experience with Platform is a 5/5. Love the programming, 24 hour access, good location, and sauna. The community is friendly and open. The only cons are the space is a little limited if you’re going to work out solo and not take class so avoid those times and just like any small business they deal with some business operational challenges.
Overall, they’re awesome. Go if you’re looking to get strong and jacked in a chill atmosphere with...
