The Shop at MATTER — Local services in Denver

I first visited the Shop at MATTER during a storytelling workshop at the Denver Fringe Fest. The space, the books, and the people stuck with me (kudos Van and Jasmine!). When I came back, Debra helped me pick out a gem: How Ideas Are Born, a beautifully made book from Barcelona.

Bouncing over to the design studio just a couple doors down, Rick was printing posters for an upcoming seminar at the bookstore. He's a consummate teacher and welcomed me and others into the studio, and even invited us to join hands-on in the printing process.

The shop and studio must be a magnet for interesting people -- one patron and I had both watched the same YouTube video about cutting a bagel into mobius strip to maximize the amount of cream cheese spread.

The combination of insightful events, the keen curation, and welcoming atmosphere is unlike anywhere else and not possible to describe anywhere...

I visited MATTER yesterday to purchase a book as a gift for a loved one! The bookstore has an excellent selection of books and the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and affable. They had a table in the back of the bookstore where they served free donuts (Parlour!) and coffee for guests and customers. As I purchased my book, I believe the staff member I was working with could see I was distraught (it was a frustrating day!) and offered me donuts and coffee. This helped tremendously in my mood shift and I left with my day turned around (positively!). This bookstore is good people and good books -- I'm very happy for...

Wow, what an awesome find in Denver. Walked in searching for an obscure book, and although we didn’t find it we found ourselves absolutely in awe of what an awesome space this was. You can feel the creative energy pulsing through the walls, and both the design student running the shop and one of the owner designers, Rick, were just an absolute pleasure to meet and talk to. We could have spent an entire day just looking through Rick’s incredible work and all of the other incredible design centered tools, books, art, etc. can’t wait...
