I got off the DIA train early. I had 5 days in Denver. I wandered the streets deciding where to get a bloody Mary. The Mexico City sign looked like it could have been a nice simple old sign, or a new style pop up. I passed it by and went to another spot, but it was closed, so I circled back. I got a Bloody Mary that was incredible. I don't know who the bartender is, but she worked Halloween day time. Very very good drink. I heard Chubb Rock, Heavy D, The Fat Boys in my first 10 minutes at the bar. My friends who are natives came to pick me up and I told them to park the car and I ordered them Bloody Marys as well. They were psyched. The next day I went back with my brother and we asked the server what she gets, and she said Chile Rellenos. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!! The burrito was awesome as well. Of course Bloody Marys. A server was even wearing an older Guerilla Garden sweatshirt from Jolt, Denver's own graff royalty and activist. I tried to go back again on Monday, and it was closed, and I had like 5 minutes of pure sadness, because it was my last day in town. This is the kind of spot that I will visit every time I go to Denver!

I had a great experience here after the Rockies game on Saturday afternoon. Place was busy but the host was awesome and found us a spot at a shareable table. Waiter was awesome. Really nice young man and was really helpful. My friend got the menudo he loved it I couldn't Edge him out of the way to take a picture of it sorry. He was on that thing like it was the last bowl on the planet. When I asked him how it was, he replied with a grunt that I took to mean excellent. I went with the fried steak tacos. They were absolutely delicious. Super crispy. That secret taco sauce was banging! I could have drank that stuff. I also got a bowl of elote. It was fantastic as well. Nice and smoky flavor and very savory with the grandma and the cheese. Was very very happy with it. Prices were more than fair. Service was awesome. Atmosphere laid back in casual but inviting and friendly. I will be back.

I have 2-3 restaurants I go for menudo but thought I’d give this place a shot since I was being lazy and didn’t want to leave the house. I order a large menudo through Uber eats but there was more broth and maybe enough tripe and hominy to feed a small toddler. I pretty much paid for broth. I was very disappointed but not as disappointed as seeing the choice of bread they gave me for my menudo. Not Mexico City Restaurant and Lounge giving out white sandwich bread with their menudo šŸ˜…. Please for the love of baby Jesus, give out toasted bolillos with your menudo and never ever ever give out white sandwich bread ever again. The menudo was tasty, I mean broth so I gave 3 stars.

We ordered our dinner online, went to the restaurant and picked it up, and were so disappointed when we got home. If you're looking for bland, boiled chicken, cold processed sandwich cheese, and undercooked tortillas this is the place for you. Seriously, I've had hospital food with more flavor. I ordered the chicken tacos. My husband order the steak tacos, which looked to be a mixture of 90% ground beef and 10% of something that looked like it was trying to be steak. I don't know how it is possible to mess up a taco order, but they managed to. When we called to discuss the order we were told we were speaking to the owner. The owner was rude and failed to acknowledge the errors and insisted she checked the food herself. All she obviously did was open our containers to ensure the number of tacos ordered was correct. If she had checked the order she would have identified the errors immediately and corrected them. She also failed to even close the food containers - which is completely lazy and unacceptable. Our food was cold when we took it out of the bag. Instead of making any attempt to correct the order, the owner told us we could waste even more of our time and return the food. It's bad enough that when you approach the restaurant, which somehow manages to look the the neighborhood trap house, the door is completely closed, you have to check in at a window and are approached by an employee that is higher than the meth heads on the corner, only to get your food that is incorrect, cold, and flavorless. Save yourself the time of looking for parking, which is hard to come by around there, and go to one of the other AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood. We've been coming to this restaurant for years and within the last 6 months it has completely nosedived. Sadly, this is the last time we will support this place. If you're really craving good fried tacos, take the drive to El Toro!!

IN RESPONSE TO OWNER’S COMMENT: This was not the first ā€œbad experienceā€. We had multiple bad experiences, yet still wanted to support local and kept giving your restaurant chances. Each time was worse than the time before. This time I was fed up enough to actually leave a review so others won’t waste their...

I've been coming here on and off throughout my child hood age 12-15 and adulthood 25-33 the food is still phenomenal šŸ‘Œ šŸ™ŒšŸ½ šŸ˜‹ but the service and atmosphere is sooo different I remember being a kid service was light and friendly and attentive so chill but let you feel seen and herd and kind. Now when you walk in or stand by the door or windown to be seated or even order at the window they are so SLOW AND RUDE IDK IF ITS TO MINORITY COLORED PEOPLE (I'm Hispanic BTW idk if it's the way I under dress sweats and a hoodie ? or what but way to make a person feel) OR THEY JUST DONT SEEM TO CARE. I've literally stood at the window for 10 minutes or longer for my order to be seen and finally acknowledged . When you want to go in and be seated they will walk by you like the can't see you even the bar tender will ask a dumb question may I help you or yes? As if you're just there to stare or be there not to enjoy some delicious food and be seated while doing so.?! Instead of Hi there ladies hru? Just give our servers a minute or two and we will have u seated soon (I was there with my grandmother this last time about a week or less ago.)Just sad really and disappointed. I'm literally to the point where I'd rather send my Husband to get us our order to Go. Lucky me to have that option. Also this is long over due I've been coming here so much for the last 2 years and I've wanted to put in a review but haven't because I really do love the fried tacos my whole family does but the service from most servers is just so low and it sucks being a place we've been coming...

I really wanted to like this place and I think I was there at the wrong time but I don’t think I would return. I had a total party of four and when we arrived it was very busy but we got seated right away. I’ve heard amazing things about the fried steak tacos so I ordered 2 steak and 2 ground beef tacos to split and the chile relleno appetizer, another person in my party ordered 4 steak tacos. When our food arrived everything looked good enough but when we started eating them there was 1 steak taco out of the 6 we ordered, I’m assuming they ran out of steak but that was not communicated to us and when we said something to our server he just said they just got slammed and he ā€œliterally had to go to the bathroom to sit down and look at his phone to get a breakā€ which like yeah cool totally get that but then there was no resolution to the problem and when we got the bill it was $80 for two entrees, an appetizer, and one margarita, at that point I just wanted to get out of there so I paid and left. But the tacos themselves were nothing to write home about. The ground beef tacos were good but I was not expecting velveeta cheese which kind of ruined it for me. The mystery meat tacos were meh. The meat in general was just kind bland and the salsa was also bland. The crispy chili rellenos were good but not $12 for 4 tiny bites good. Maybe they have a good happy hour but the price point does not match the food and service. Sorry Mexico City but it’s...
