Nestled in the heart of the city’s vibrant nightlife, this cocktail bar is a sanctuary for connoisseurs of fine whiskey and meticulously crafted libations. The dimly lit ambiance, adorned with vintage chandeliers and plush leather seating, exudes an air of sophisticated indulgence, drawing patrons into an immersive sensory experience.
The bar boasts an extensive selection of whiskeys, sourced from the finest distilleries across Scotland, Japan, and Kentucky, each bottle whispering tales of meticulous craftsmanship. Their signature cocktails elevate whiskey to an art form, seamlessly blending its robust character with thoughtfully curated ingredients.
The Smoked Maple Old Fashioned is an absolute revelation—velvety bourbon, infused with the deep complexity of charred oak, melds harmoniously with the golden richness of maple syrup and a whisper of Angostura bitters. The final flourish of an orange zest twist releases citrusy aromatics, adding a tantalizing brightness to each sip. Meanwhile, the Spiced Manhattan offers a symphony of flavors, where rye whiskey’s bold spiciness intertwines with the velvety embrace of sweet vermouth and a house-made cinnamon-clove tincture, culminating in a finish both warming and profoundly layered.
Beyond the whiskey-centric offerings, the mixologists craft avant-garde cocktails that push the boundaries of innovation. The Elderflower Whiskey Sour, an ethereal blend of smooth Tennessee whiskey, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon, and aquafaba, delivers a silky, cloud-like texture balanced by the interplay of floral and citrus notes. Each concoction is not merely a drink but an odyssey through nuanced flavors, meticulously designed to evoke intrigue and delight.

Read moreHow can I not write a review about a bar that's all about Christmas?! It's completely, wall to wall, floor to ceiling, up, down and sideways, 100% about spreading cheer. And using alcohol to do so. Of course I'm gonna say something positive!
Christmas cards as menus? Check. Mugs shaped like Santa? Check. Wreaths? Check. Christmas lights? Check. Gingerbread train? Check. A Christmas Story playing on the TV? Check. Christmas themed drink names? Check...
(Christmaspolitan, Jingle Ball Nog, etc. I had the Yippie Ki Yay Motherf**er. Not Christmas-y, you say? Well then you haven't seen the movie!)
If you're walking around Campus Martius and admiring the festive spirit of the area, you're sure to enjoy this little nook of a place to keep that holiday cheer going strong.
So as many have said, it's located exactly where The Skip is located in the summer; a pop up bar that's only around for a very short time. Dec 24th is the last day. It's a small place with not much seating. We had to wait about 15 minutes to enter. So that means standing outside in the cold since there isn't enough space to stand inside. So, you know, don't plan on spending the night there partying...that's just rude! Have a drink or two and let others enjoy the mini wonderland that it is.
Also, the mugs are for sale if you want to bring a little bit of the Christmas magic home with you. (*and it's not completely impossible to drop one into your bag if you were already drunk before you got there and you thought for some reason it would be really funny and a good idea to steal one). But I would never...
Read moreNot only do they have fun drinks and snacks, The Skip makes me feel safe with their standards and protocols. Tonight, I witnessed a middle-aged white man attempt to walk through the Belt, which houses the Skip and has a mask-required policy, without wearing a mask. The extremely nice bouncer stopped him, explained he needed to be wearing a mask, and the man got defensive and started recording the bouncer. The bouncer was calm and collected, slowly walking with the man and asking him to leave or put the mask on. I was fearful of the man as he got further agitated, and he actually reached down to his pockets/side of his belt multiple times. I am not sure if he had a gun or a taser, or he was just doing this as a scare tactic. I was extremely scared for the bouncer, as he simply shouldn't have to deal with this on top of his normal job duties. The man finally left with a few other middle-aged white men, also recording. It seemed like this group was going place to place, trying to antagonize and provoke employees that are simply enforcing the rules that they did not necessarily create yet have to enforce. No business wants this situation, but this is the reality that many are facing. I am really grateful for the Skip's enforcement of mask-wearing and the employees really handled this incident with grace and care. I will definitely come back. Also, they have...
