Very disappointing to see such a nice little store get ruined but a new extremely rude employee. I came here for years and spent thousands of dollars here and knew the old staff by name. However when I went in today (10/15/20 at 12: 45pm) to get my normal box and a half of $65 clay I wasn't told, I was yelled at by a new employee that I had never seen before, that I was not to open the boxes. Clay comes in a 50lb box and is divided and sold in 25lb slabs in bags. Why it was an issue I was opening a box when they charge per piece in a box that holds two is beyond me. However, it is the manor in which this female employee told me not to open boxes that caused me to write this review. I was insulted, humiliated and angered. This was simply a display of power on the part of the shop keep and her chance to belittle me in front of friends she was gabbing with in the front of the store. I had my daughter with me and felt very taken back and ashamed to be attacked for doing something I had been allowed to do by all the other employees at this store countless times before. This employee didn't just tell me, she told me off and continued to go on and on about how I should have gotten her when she never made herself available. When I apologized she ignored me and continued to bite my head off, eventually causing my daughter to cry but this did not stop the shop keeper from telling me off. I know people have bad days but to attack a father taking his daughter to an art store and continue to harass him simply for separating a box of clay is ridicules and this woman should not have a job anywhere, especially catering to peaceful artists just trying to get their art supplys and not be harassed. I don't know what possessed this awful woman to attack me for simply doing HER job for her but I left without buying my clay and and my daughter confused and sobbing thinking I did something terrible. I will not ever be returning to Art Supply House & Custom Framing. I strongly urge management to look into the employee who was working 10/15/20 at 12:45 in the afternoon. I strongly urge artistists and anyone looking for art supplys or framing needs to look elsewhere unless Art Supply House & Custom Framing comes up with a really good excuse and response to...
Read moreHorrible customer service. I purchased a lovely journal to use for bread journaling, I was really excited about it. I took it home and immediately started to document my personal recipes! After a few minutes of writing I noticed green dye on my hands. I went to wash it off and it wouldn't come off! I had already written so much and the pages were so pretty that I tried to salvage the situation by putting wax on the cover to keep the dye from coming off any more. Well, it worked for a minute, but then today when I went to use the journal to make bread the dye started again. Now I have green dye on my hands while I try to kneed bread. So I went back to the store to ask if I could just please have a replacement in exchange, seems simple enough, but apparently since I altered the journal, I'm not allowed an exchange or return. The journal I purchased was $15, I as asking for an $8 replacement. Now the right thing to do, in a small town, where you rely mostly on our local and repeat business (I spend $100s of dollars in there each time I go because it is more expensive to buy there vs on line, but support local, you know...) anyway the right thing to do would be "wow, thank you for letting us know this is happening to one of our products, we're so sorry, yes, please have a replacement, we hope this doesn't tarnish your option of the other products we cary" But nope, instead "our policy says once you alter the product you can't return it." Welp, you've lost my business - and I'll be telling everyone I know how terrible your customer service is, how dismissive of concerns you are, go to Walmart instead at least they'll help you. Lousy choices Matthew Holt - small...
Read moreReally pleasantly surprised by the product selection and extensive inventory. For a small store they really carry a lot of supplies across a great variety of mediums. Ran all over Montrose and Durango looking for painting glaze before I had the good sense to stop in here and not only did they have it in stock, but they had more than 1 variety to choose from! They also had a neat little section of paint markers, including a brand that I’ve never even heard of before. I’ve been using paint markers for years and never before have I encountered Posca, but I scooped up a couple and they’re top of the line. I’ll definitely be back for more. Got into a conversation with the clerk (Kristen, according to the name on my receipt) about paint markers, and she was extremely knowledgeable and helpful by offering some tips about how to get them started on first use. I live in Silverton so I don’t get to shop in Durango all the time and I’ve become somewhat accustomed to ordering most of my supplies online but since having such a great experience here in terms of product and customer service I’ll definitely make a point of returning in the future. More than happy to spend my money locally and really impressed with the experience here....
