Ampersand Shops — Local services in Edina

I've shopped here off-and-on for years and have always appreciated the product quality and selection. During a recent shopping trip I was able to appreciate their excellent customer service. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the associate's name (her number from the receipt is 29!), but she was patient and creative in helping me select table linens. It was challenging because I recently decided to use my late mother's china every day instead of keeping it stored away. The china is from the 1940s and has a very ornate floral and gold pattern, and I wanted to use the table linens to give the table a more modern, casual twist. Ampersand had napkins and placemats that perfectly complement the 1940s china yet update the look. My sister saw the table setting yesterday for the first time and she was blown away ... she said she was disappointed that she got rid of her MIL's china and her own china when she saw how great a modernized version could be. Some great products in this store but I won't be going back. Visited the store for the first time on a Saturday and had already picked up some items to purchase, when a staff member said very abruptly that they would be closing in 5 minutes. This felt quite rude and not exactly customer friendly. I was still picking out items to purchase and my partner was meeting me there to help choose some items. He was held up in a nearby store in line to check out and I explained this to the staff member. She just asked which store and then walked off. So I quickly finished up, then she spent time finding someone to do the check out- despite no other customers being served. I left with a feeling that their closing on the dot was far more important than me spending more money in their store. None of the sales people seemed at all friendly - very negative...

After 35 years of shopping at Ampersand, buying countless gifts, I will never return.The service from the staff and manager were quite brusque. Totally non-flexible. I purchased a gift that was a promotion at Ampersand was not wanted by my father. I brought it back for an exchange and was categorically denied. No return no exchange on sale merchandise (new in original packaging with receipt). I would never have purchased this if I knew it couldn’t be returned or exchanged. Buyer beware at Ampsersand. Customer service was the worst! I will share this story with my alerting them to the decline of Ampersand. Sad to post...
