I’ve been coming to this gym for over a year now and it’s by far the best Anytime Fitness location. It has a very supportive staff and they treat you like family. I’ve been struggling with obesity for a long time until recently I finally got serious with dieting so having a trainer who’s also a nutritionist has been instrumental for me. So far I’ve lost almost 40lbs from 195 and I’m about to start a bulking phase.
I joined this gym with weight loss and lowering my pre-diabetes risk in mind but when I got to a comfortable point I decided to change gears. Whether you’re trying to slim down, bulk up, or do both like me nutrition is so important. The problem was that when I started I had no clue about it. Having Kevin as a nutritionist and trainer taught me a lot about the science of my food and to recognize BS like some extreme diets and supplements while also focusing on strength training.
Tracking and reporting what I eat and exercise to my trainer does involve some work but, this way, I’m actively engaged and motivated even outside the gym or working out. I highly recommend this method for beginners when it comes to hiring a trainer because if you decide to hire someone and their only interaction with you is spotting you while you work out, you are just wasting time and money. It’s like paying thousands in tuition for a teacher whose only interaction with students is calling attendance and reading from a PowerPoint slide word-for-word verbatim. Even if you don’t hire Kevin, find a trainer similar who is 1) willing to invest in you and 2) put up with your hundreds of questions and then give your effort even outside the gym. Otherwise, it will be like spending 4 years in school for a meaningless piece of paper rather than actual knowledge.
I’ve worked out at both of the Long Beach locations, the Cypress one before it closed, the Orange location, and the Culver City location. Except for Orange and Culver City, they are either smaller or lacking in variety of machines/equipment compared to El Segundo. The Culver City location, however, has extremely limited parking and the Orange location is best as a gym near home. I don’t know what the staff is like at any of these locations as El Segundo AF is the only one I go to during the daytime. I would say El Segundo AF is best for commuters or frequent travelers working out before or after work as lunchtime parking can be cutthroat.
Even if you don’t choose this gym or any gym, if you want to get serious about losing weight and/or building muscle give the effort of tracking...

When I first arrived, I was given a tour by Gigi and got to try the gym out for a day. The gym was (and still is) very clean, well-managed/equipped, and unlike other gyms, wasn't completely packed. Gigi then walked me through pricing options, and was so happy with the gym that I signed a 2-year contract. They still manage to find the time to give anyone interested a tour. I haven't been let down since!
During the lockdown due to COVID-19, the owner did his best to keep the gym open and safe. The new manager, Gazel, and Gigi kept me well-informed throughout. When the gym was closed, they notified me and turned off payments. When it reopened, I was informed how to reserve times and what I needed to do to safely workout. As COVID-19 restrictions started to ease up, Gazel recommended I try out some training with Christian. The session with Christian was very helpful as his training method, depth of knowledge, and animated personality made his training session better than any I've received before.
Gazel is a fantastic manager who greets every person that comes in, communicates well with members, and makes sure you can have distraction-free workouts day in, day out. Gigi has been amazing from the start and is always a helpful, friendly face around the gym.
A few other perks that I haven't had with other gyms: Visits from health food/drink vendors and clothing vendors BMI calculating teams occasionally come in Partnerships with local fitness stores and meal prep stores that give you discounts Military discount Multiple restaurants in the same parking lot Finally, I'm pretty confident someone on the team is an amateur DJ because the soundtrack never disappoints when I forget my headphones

Read moreThis gym is the cleanest and most peaceful gym I have ever been a member of. It never has that musty smell that most gyms have, has plenty of wipes, and equipment is new and up to date (or very quickly replaced if not). The staff are incredibly friendly, humble, and kind. They often wave or greet me at the door. Their manager Gazel is so personable too and really goes out of his way to connect with members to provide a great experience. I believe that the friendly & warm environment also instills friendliness and warmth in its members, because this gym often feels like a small community. I was having a bad morning a few weeks ago, and someone who often works out around the same time as me took the time to come up to me, say hi, and ask why I hadn't been in the gym recently.
However, I am here writing this review because my personal training experience with Matthew at this gym has changed my fitness journey and my health forever and I really want to give a shoutout :) I've been training with him for about 5 months now and with his support I can more confidently lift heavy without fearing injury. I also recently got into a car accident and the things I have learned from Matt related to stretching and foam rolling have been helping me manage pain at home while I work on recovery.
I feel so much more independent, which I never had felt before! I always felt like I had to follow someone else's workout guide, but now I feel that I can create my own workouts. He is also such a wealth of education/information and really takes the time to explain workouts to me, as well as answer any and all questions I have. I can tell he really wants his clients to learn and be safe. Lastly, he is just an overall great and kind person, and really takes the time to listen and get to know me.
