5 star Very nice store. Super nice employees....this was my review prior to my trip in today.
Picture it. Elkhart, 2023 (if you know, you know) My daughter and I were taking our dogs to the park and on the way we swung into Meijer for 2 items. We did not park in the "quick trip" spaces because those spots are not a good idea and they should be reserved for pregnant customers. (IMHO) We also parked with the back of the truck to the sun so the dogs were laying in shade. My back window is super dark tinted so, it stays comfortable in this truck for a good amount of time (usually about an hour when we are camping) especially with the gorgous cross breeze there was today. When we returned to our car precisely 11 minutes later (i double checked with the location on my phone) there was a very condescending young employee circling my vehicle who proceeded to tell me "several" very concerned customers had complained that our dogs were basically dying of heat exhaustion in the car. (The bull-boxer trying to kiss this yound girl every time she passed by on that side seemed like she was on the verge of heat stroke...if it would have gotten her a treat.) It was earlier in the day, so about 74 degrees outside at that time. All 4 windows were down, bowl of water in back of my SUV for them. Neither dog was even panting and the room temp cherries I had brought from home to snack on, were still cool to the touch. She proceeded to tell me that she COULD have called the humane society but would hate to see me get my dogs taken away and I probably did not mean to be cruel to them, but leaving them in the car like that is abuse. Excuse me? Since when? Because of this one employee I will not return to this store. If you are walking in circles around my vehicle and can see with your own eyes that my dogs are responsive, happy, not panting, and have water, let the concerned customers know there is no problem. If there is a problem, send the store manager, not a fetus employee to talk to me like I am 4 years old. So...
Read moreIt's a beautiful new store that is laid out nicely and easy to navigate. Lots of great products, a pharmacy, and a garden center. Prices are on the "high average" side and comparable to local Martin's stores.
I tried the "Shop and Scan" app for my entire order. It is a real pain in the neck and probably added an hour to my shopping experience. I do not suggest it for more than a few items. Shop and scan purchases must be completed at dedicated registers. If you scan a weekly shopping trip (a cart full), there is no efficent way to bag your groceries. I asked for help, but the associate monitoring the transactions walked away. I ended up bagging my items by the trunk of my car because I felt rushed to get out of the way of other shoppers, and it was just easier; but it gave me an uneasy feeling unloading and bagging in a dark parking lot. By the way, the HOME side of the store closes at 9 pm, so don't park on that side if you will be shopping past that time.
I give the store five stars for beauty, layout, and product freshness and selection. I give it two stars for customer service (lack thereof) and one star for the shop and scan app; it can definitely be improved. I really feel like I should have been given a 10% cart discount for doing their employees' jobs. I was completely wiped out...
Read moreGreat store. Has really good selection of products. The issues I have however is the lack of dressing rooms. If you're going to sell a good chunk of clothing items there should be a place to try them on. I can't afford to buy multiple sizes of something just to find the correct size and return the others. Also that's not even an option with sales items. Hello!? Common sense.
*Edit. I see that corporate has decided to get rid of these changing rooms. I will be trying clothes on in the store I don't care. I'll change in the isle. I dont have time or money to come and go just to find the right size of clothing. We all deserve to own clothing that fits and it shouldn't be so hard to make sure the item fits BEFORE purchasing. I suggest everyone else does the same. Reading about customers trying clothing items on in the restroom as well as boldly in front of everyone. Sooo, your call...
